    Hi guys,

    I bought an alienware m17x r3 in december 2011
    My configurations are as follows:

    Intel® Core™ i7 2670QM 2.2GHz (3.1GHz w/Turbo Boost, 6MB Cache)
    8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz (4DIMMS)
    Alienware M17x 240W A/C Adapter
    17.3-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED
    2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 6990M
    500GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s

I have been experiencing annoying freezes in virtually EVERY game since last month, (i.e. Guild wars 2, Dota 2, HON, etc)
The freezes mostly lasts 1-3 seconds, which might seen little, but seriously ruin the game experience.
It is also extremely constant, (Sometimes occur every 5 seconds or 10 seconds, then it will be fine for 10 minutes, then it will come back again.)
I reinstalled to factory settings, but the problem is still there.

Another problem is that the audio/voice acting in games often lag, or sometimes overlap each other (In guild wars 2 especially)
The text in guild wars 2 takes a long time to appear also and this is not a network problem for sure.

Also, i tried installing new catalyst drivers, but i keep getting BSODs and also weird artifacting when it comes to an error.
Also, when i move my cursor to the top right corner of my screen, the mouse lags and stutters/blinks.

How could i fix this issue?!

Thank you!!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Sorry for a bad first reply... but it kinda sounds like your graphics card is failing :(

BSODs, artifacts, stuttering/blinking, lag, and freezing...... all are pointing to a fault in the GPU. I'd do a clean windows install, install latest drivers... and repaste the GPU as a last resort... have you been keeping an eye on your clock speeds/temps?

Maybe it's just overheating and you gotta reseat the heatsink or something :S I'm no expert though I'm actually pretty clueless, but that does sound bad.

Check your temps and post them here ..

Yeah as LeoVanio says, check your temps, sounds like its time to clean out the fans/heatsink. A quick blast of air should help.
Also the HDD would be a slight contribution towards the poor performance, I get noticable lag/stuttering as the HDD is loading a bit of the map. Troubleshoot simple things first, have a look at the fans, personally I think its temps throttling the card.

So I have this same problem, have an identical setup to the op and have already had the processor replaced. The graphics card temperature currently rubs at around 60 degrees whilst idle, not sure if that could be the problem.

Also have had the laptop for the same length of time as op, would really like to get thus sorted so any help would be appreciated.

Have newest drivers and BIOS fully updated.
