But theres nothing to make you want to buy it at the moment, well not for me anyway.

The GTX 460M with optimus is the only Gfx card option at the moment, the most powerful CPU they have is the i7 2820QM, and I don't know if this is wrong but for the 32GB Ram it will cost you £119,848.80

Oooooh, look, only £119,848.00 for 32GB of memory. Bargain!

I'm trying to imagine the reaction of the first rep that makes a sale with the 32GB RAM config. I know in a lot of places, reps can get offered the rest of the day off if they make a sale. Maybe a promotion?

Hahaha! Sorry that isn't constructive. The r3 is a waste of time at the moment it is really sad to see. I hope my m15x doesn't break down so theres no chance of them offering that to me.

I feel sorry for the guys that were on the verge of buying the r3 waiting for weeks now it seems like even more waiting if you want the most powerful investment with 2 graphics cards.

Honestly the m15x is already too close in weight and size to the m17x for most consumers that the r2 just came down to pricing. Now alienware have given you no reason to buy an m17x over the m15x since the are single graphics. Starting price £1799 are they nuts?

Personally I think alienware have really messed up, they would have been better releasing a powerful 13 inch and dropping the m15x, that would of hit the market sweet spot and the m17x would of continued to be the beast with a dual setup.

The problem is if you decide to stick with alienware you could be waiting months, earliest march but possibly until the end of the year until you can get your hands on the technology you want in your hands now, by then there will be leaks of newer stuff will be out with benchmarks that will no doubt irritate you!

If you have an m17x r2 or the newer m15x and want a new alienware you are better of waiting it out or buying the new Clevo if you are itching. I'm going to wait it out another year until they release something decent. Maybe ivy bridge will give me what I want. Any of the newer systems plays games well anyway.

Hehe, omg... I just had to look it up myself... lol.

I don't know why they already put it online as the new ATI cards don't seem to be available already just like the extreme processors. Leaves a poor impression of the M17x.

Trying to make quick money from the uneducated who will buy the new model because it's the latest even with poor specs! The pricing is outrageous even by alienware standards. The rep I'm talking to on the phone can't seem to give a reason why 32 gigs is £119,848.80 but he doesn't think it's an error. Also he seems to be under the impression that the r3 supports crossfire, if this is the case why don't they give the option of having two 460ms.

    So

Is there actually 2 mxm gpu slots on the sandy or not? Not impresed on screen option. Would of been nice to have rgb 3d display.

I think xfire or sli to be minimum to run 3d games on high resolution.

    Shame

With the m18x confirmed it's highly doubtful that the r3 can run crossfire as it wouldn't need to. r3 looks like a machine just to broaden their target market. An expensive one at that. Not good. As you can see from all the plastic they are willing to sacrifice quality over a few sales. This is Dell for you. I hope it fails or alienware will lose the niche.

I really really doubt R3 is crossfire/SLI capable... It has only 2 vents on the back... one for processor and another for a gfx card..unlike R2 (which has 3)... I think its meant to be run on single card... and now that m18x rumor has surfaced from the same source which served us R3 news I think dell wanted it to compete with g73...
well they have made M17x-R3 really slim and compact.. makes me think if they want to strike off m15x from the portfolio??? I mean c'mon what will they revise M15x with any way?? M17x-R3 should have been M15x-R2(R3 according to dell)... and even size wise M15x is almost as big as M17xR2 (a very small difference) and now R3 is smaller and slimmer (Thanks to 16:9 ratio and single gfx card).... what do you guys think??

    Well.

i think we will have to wait till someone actually buys one to see what gpu it can or cant have. I thought the r3 has the same chassis as r2 in which case there would be enough room for 2nd gpu with all three vents. Its just the fact if the mobo has 2 mxm slots or just a massive hole in the right side of laptop.

I noticed on alien website it has ati on front page but in customization it only offers the 460 option.

Dell can't compete with the G73 because they are charging a ridiculous amount for the 120hz lcd. I can get the G73 for 2000.00. If Dell is more than that even with SB, then it really isn't worth it for me to stay with a Dell 17" 3D computer. It still isn't up on the US site so we won't know until then.

I spec'd a m17r3 with 3d and blu-ray and it totaled 2138 euro which is over $2700. I doubt this built to compete with the m15x. I am not a fan of the plastic for sure.

Looking forward to spec'ing all the options to get an idea of prices.

Dell CS opened an hour ago so it should have popped up by now. You could try calling, they may be able to take orders for it over the phone.

not up on US site, neither in mexican dell site, still
    R-2 showed up.

And i'm so, but so glad that i have bought the R-2 just in time before the R-3. Reminds me of 2006, i've bought a 06 Jeep Rubicon and it was the last before the new 2007 model comes out (and i love it :D, sorry for the little OT).

Even though its listed it links to the the R2 customizing page and the R2 links to the M15x.

    * The link is corrected, only 16GB of RAM max for the config (+$500), both AMD/NVIDIA GPU options, HHD option, 3 LCD options, all WLED 1600x900, 1920x1080, 1920x1080 3D.

I just noticed m17x r2 has option for gtx 460 was this always available i thought m15x was the only one with gtx 460 support. You can't build it in the config since it is not available but in the post it lists it as an option for m17x classic (lolz classic). Also states the gtx 285 and 940xm is available on the r3.
