Hey friends. I have a problem with my alienware 17 r1 thant bought it weeks ago. The laptop have overheating problem that when I have run stress test or bench test cpu have temp over 97 Celsius. Some friends helped me and I applying thermal grizzly conductuant and buying good cool pad ( cooler master u3 plus) but the result was the same. Sometime laptop restart or shutdown suddenly after a beep.
I use throttle stop and decrease of set core and cache voltage to -90mv and down clock the cores to to 39, 38, 37,36 and now with full cool pad load I have temp reach 89 Celsius but few times after restarting windows when the laptop just log off the laptop shutdown suddenly after a beep and I think its because throttle stop closed after log off. I really want to solve this problem and use my CPU at is best. A friend recommended me that I use thermal pad and downgrading bios from a16 to a14+ , but I don't sure that this solve problem and I afraid that when I want downgrading bios , laptop suddenly shut down and the bios wracked.
Plz someone help , a hero or some one famous (like the legend Mr.fox ) or anyone else that had this problem.

For this processor you need the aftermarket hs

Where I can find that? And I have 4930mx with 880m graphic.
I think at least , shouldn't have suddenly restart with stock his. -
It does with an overclock that's heavy on voltage
Attached is my throttlestop settings. BUt you have to disable vrm throttling in bios

Brenden Weaver likes this. -
No over clock just Intel turbo boost. I have restart with stock multiplier (39 39 38 37). Your oc is my dream brother.
-
Mines not the best but I suggest against xtu

I use throttle stop too. But with 1.01v and 37 4 core multiplier my CPU temp reach 98.
-
Somethings not right.

Yesss. And I want know what's that.....

Looks like you have a warped heatsink, core 0 max is 99 degrees and core 3 is 83. You might need to replace it to solve that problem. Your laptop is shutting down because that is too much of an undervolt for your CPU to handle, it should stop crashing on stock voltage.Papusan and Vistar Shook like this.
-
That's still way too hot kn stock hs with that voltage. With my 4.2 at 1.15 with stock hs and cunductonaut I was at about 80 to 90 max. Dynamic(stock) voltage should never be used with that CPU in our laptops

The restarts are been before undervolting and I think its because of overheating.
Can I fix it myself ?with something Like thermal pad? Because I can't buy anything from eBay because international sanctions.
Another thing is that the core 3 have lower temp from core 2 , and core 2 from 1 and one from zero because in throttle stop shows that the core 0 get more watt than 1 and 2 and 3. -
I think you have things set up wrong as well. In xtu I mean. I really dont like their layout at all. Set things to default in xtu and do a temp test. Use hwinfo to record logs for 1 hour of testing. Even if the computer shuts off, the log will remain intact

Actually I disappointed from xtu , before throttle stop I use xtu , and umdervolting doesn't help at all in xtu. The one thing that help is that I reduce turbo boost power max from 56 to 40 and I hadn't restart after that but core multiplier don't go beyond 2.9 with quad core load. So I set back thing to default and remove xtu although something doesn't reset like current max limit.
And a friend said me that remove xtu inf but I can't find that inf , and before uninstall after every restart xtu come to default automatically.
Another thing is I have restart before install xtu.
I bought it two weeks ago , installed win 10 , update driver and bios ( from a14 to a16) and after that I have restarts. ( before these updates I don't check stress test or bench) .
After these restarts happened I install xtu , hwinfo , change bios of profile ( had to CMOS reset after that because of not posting) and more. -
You should not have updated the bios

But is this the problem ?
-
I dont think so. Like I said, I need a stock thermal test log from hwinfo, without any overclocking changes. So stock clocks, no changes in bios regarding processor from stock

OK , I send it for you , but I afraid the temps go high to 100 Celsius and its damage CPU for 1 hour.
-
Laptop will shut down to prevent damage, prolonged use like that will be a problem of course
-
I'm at work, reach home in 2 hour and get the log.
You mean that its dangerous to get 1 hour log on stress test? And is 10 min enough to diagnosis? -
No one hour on the cpu would be fine, but definitely shouldn't be the norm.
It's likely you lack back pressure from no thermal pads on the vrms/mosfet and/or warped heatsink -
I'm asking for a default stock clock/voltage test to eliminate the vrm/throttling that may occur. And so that I can get a base, I've had so many issues with this proc but used the stock hs even with an oc and it never shut down
I would even go so far as to tell him to remove the pad from the vrms and run the test like I asked. I need it for comparison to mine

sry for delay its 45min hwinfo log with cpu z 8 thread stress test , fool cool pad work. turn of throttle stop and disable voltage adjustement.this time temp reach 92 precent ( although with 3.7ghz)(moody temp)

I'll take a look when I get to work. Can you take a pic of your xtu/throttlestop temps? Also, did you remove the pad on the vrms or no?
Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk -
i think the throttle stop doesnt turn off setting with just turn it off. because after set voltage offset to 0 the temp go high again to 98 percent.
-
Take a pic of your settings in bios and throttlestop

Did you recently install the 4930mx?
Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk -
no , i bought it two weeks ago but its writed on its back thats have 4930xm and 880m gpu
-
when i reset offset in throttle , it reach 100 degree again .aah.
-
That should not be happening on the Stock heatsink wait till I get to work and I'll try to help you more should be about an hour and a have
Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk -
do you need another log with reset offset , because the previus one was without offset reset and just turn of throttle?
-
Image fr CPU and GPU
-
This socket is not firmly attach to motherboard but others are firmly attach to it. Is this normal?
-
Yes. That is normal

But this screw don't turn as the same of other!
-
What does it do?
Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk -
I mean 3 to 4 turn less than other
-
If you look at the hs dos that screw look all the way in? Can you turn it any more or no?
Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk -
Clean up. Put on 3/4 long thin line soft thermal paste on die (even toothpaste works) for checking the contact pressure. To see if the paste spreads even and nicely. Open up again and post quality screenshoots of die and Heatsink. Don't use too much paste.
-
Yes . its in and can't screw it any more.
-
I don't know but I think the his is healthy to. I give heat to one side and the other side get hot too.
-
You mean I clear the grizzly?
-
The hard job. Its not clean easily also with alcohol pad.
-
Do you know what's the default CPU core voltage for 4930mx?
-
That would change based in the the chip. They are not all equal.
-
The default is dynamic voltage
