I bought my alienware m17x r3 through dell online store and shipped it through borderlinx, using a normal credit card to pay for both dell and borderlinx, now there is a few issues i would like to know if some people are also facing with the m17x, - this could also be a guide for potential buyers -

First: the optical drive makes a nasty sound everytime i start the system, until a few weeks back were it stopped working or even showing up, now i don't mind this problem but is there a ways to tell if it is the sata port or the OD. as i am going to be replacing it with a hdd caddy, intel RST doesn't even detect the OD port anymore

2nd: Playing videos on the HD graphics card sometimes outputs faulty image, mostly in very dark or very light scenes, but when i swtich to the nvidia gtx 460 this problems goes away.

3rd: My intel ultimate-6300 dies or refuses to connect to any network if i upload large files throgh the network like 2gb for example, this occurs when i am not in full range, even if it is only missing one signal bar.

4th: cosmatic problem, on the top og the lift side, above the ethernet port the plastic seem flabby i mean it is not glued very well, also the battery placment with the lower body and cover is bay, i mean it makes sound and wiggles so when you hold the laptop you feel like its going to break apart.

Please comment on the problem and tell men if you have and if possible how you solved it.
NO MATTER WHAT I STILL LOVE MY M17XR3 :)

Hi, I don't have any hardware/software problems, however I have the same battery issue as you do, it's a bit loose and it jiggles slightly. Also, do you have cracks or chips on the bottom panel that the battery covers?

I would severely advise you look through this.

    and do it.

You can wait till you suffer optimus related bsods, or do it before you get any.

If you get anything related to "nvdlskrnl.exe"(I think its spelled like that), it's the faulty optimus system.

no, i dont have cracks under the battery. helpful tip to save battery life is to disable charging behaviour if you are always plugged in.
