I bought my Alienware M17X R4 on amazon's website ( Amazon.com: Alienware AM17xR4-7263BK 17-Inch Laptop (Black): Computers & Accessories). The reason I'm posting this is to warn you guys about the dubious information regarding the product showed on their page.

Under technical details, below product information, they say the display's resolution is 1920x1080, but below product description they say it is 1600x900. People were commenting on the customer reviews area that the screen they were receiving had the 900p res.

I resolved to order nevertheless, wanting the 1080p unit, but got the 900p instead. I thought a lot about it and decided to ask them for a partial refund today, since those two informations were showed on their website, which might lead the customer to buy it thinking they'll receive the 1080p display.

The refund was the difference between the two displays (around US$150) and will be processed soon. I also asked them to correct the website's info and they'll look into it.

When in doubt, always contact the seller before you purchase it.

I had a tight schedule since I was on a quick trip through the US (7 days, precisely - I'm a foreigner). I saw the laptop before, but only chose it during my second day there, so I had little time, after the machine's selection, to ask them about specifications that were doubtfully placed on their website. They should, before any inquiry from a customer, post precise information of their products to avoid confusions like this.

Ordered a screen from the same guy and I'm waiting for it to finally get here now. Would be less than $150. ;)

They charge 700+ for an aftermarket 1080p display.

yea that is pretty much the only reason I never got the 1080p panel for my machine until a few days ago. Looking forward to rocking that higher res screen. :D

It would be nice if you could post some pics or vids of your display swapping. I`d like to see it!

I'll try to post up something. Its not complicated to swap out the panels though. All you gotta do is remove the keyboard bezel and the keyboard, then unhook the wireless card and the other cables, then unscrew the hinges and remove the panel. Once you get that done all you gotta do is undo the two screws holding the lid on, push it upwards and remove it. Then unscrew the webcam and put it on the new panel. After that, just do everything in reverse order and your done. ;)
