Finally got my replacement, turn around wasn't too bad either, 15 days from the day I called and ask for a replacement, to it arriving today.

What I have noticed about the two is:

    1. Media bar is has the same raised area, slightly touching the screen when the lid is closed, just like the original on the right hand side.

    2. LCD panels are the same model number, the replacement is of a clean white, when compared the original which has a blue hue to the whites. The original had a screen flicker problem under any brightness less than full, I cannot see this on the replacement.

    3. Both laptop have the lid slightly off centre to the right when closed, looking from a bird's eye view.

    4. No more right hand speaker rattle in the replacement.

    5. Replacement uses Hynix memory, the original uses Micron memory.

    6. The replacement was actually new, not used.

    7. When I took out the battery, a plastic cover use for the end of spare wireless cables fell out of the battery compartment.

    8. Tons of finger print marks on the underneath of the bottom back cover when removed.

    9. Replacement ships with SP1 and has the BIOS is at A04. Original had no service pack, and A03 BIOS.

From the last two comment, I would guess they have a messy factory with grubby hand workers.

Overall the replacement is better, the difference if minimal. The raised media bar looks like a fact of life for the R3 series.

Currently I have 2 Alienware M17x R3 the same as my sig in my possession. :D for a limited time only :(

Here is a photo, sorry for the poor quality shot, it's fairly dark in my room at night, lighting and camera sucks.

Replacement on the left, and the original on the right.

Congrats, too bad you can't keep both of them!

Sounds like they corrected most of your issues. Sorry to hear about the media bar issue. Are you sure it is not some sort of issue with a part not being seated properly? Mine came without the problem, so I have yet to see a really clear picture of the problem. Seems like it should be fixable however.
