Guys, i know i have a 6990m because it shows in GPUz with 1120 shaders, and a stock speed of 715/900. I just thought it was GPUz

Anyways, just downloaded Sapphire trixx for some overclocking and it shows up as 6970 too.

So what do i have to do to get it to show as 6990 in apps?

Wait until the programs you use 100% support it and shows it as a 6990.

i think its something in the driver that is identifying it as 6970. Shows as 6970m in 3dmark11...the only saving grace is i scored almost 3500 so i know its a 6990m :)

If you know you're getting the performance of a 6990, and you have a 6990, what is the problem, other than some OCD flaring up..?

I don't understand the big deal here. If you know you have a 6990, why do you care? That's all that matters. My 6970's show up as 6900 series in most programs. And in everything but gpu-z they show up as having 480 shaders. I couldn't care less.

There's no point calling Dell support and complaining about something that is out of their control. If you're so bothered by it, you should be calling the programmers responsible for updating gpu-z, rivatuner, 3Dmark products, etc.

well you have the hd6970m (csfire) so you cant really understand how somebody who spent extra $200 on GPU to get 6990m instead of 6970m feels when they get their laptops, open up CCC (no GPU-z or stuff like that) and it tells them that hd6970m is at their command. Thats how I felt and even though I now know better it still bugs me from time to time.

People are like that, we always want something we cant have :)

Or how about you go out and buy a 5.0 Mustang gt with 440hp...but the version you received from the dealership looks like the V6 mustang. You know you have the GT because it goes 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, but it looks like the V6. There really isnt a BIG DEAL with it, but it just doesn't sit right inside my gut.

But then you check gpu-z and find out you really do have a 6990m. If there was no way of knowing for sure I could understand being disconcerted, but since you do know you definitely have a 6990m, then what's the point?

When I spent the $880 to buy two 6970m's, I didn't buy them because I wanted to look at their names in benching programs. I bought them for the performance. As long as I had that, I didn't really care. Idk maybe I just don't mind buying something and it not being 100% perfect. Might explain why I always go with refurbed laptops and don't get disappointed when there's a scratch on the case for example.

I have the 6990s and to be quite frank, i couldn't care less what a program reads them as. All I care about is the score board baby.
