ALIENWARE M17x R2 i7-740QM Quad|6GB|500GB|Bluetooth|Factory Warranty | eBay
I was planning on getting a 1080p screen after buying it since it doesn't have anything but a 1440x900 screen, however, I can deal with that for a short time until I upgrade.![]()
Sound like a plan?
Also, is it a pain to upgrade to dual 6970Ms?![]()

Upgrading to Dual 6970's isn't a pain at all. In fact you can purchase a pair from Eurocom on ebay (seller name upgradeyourlaptop).
All the specifics you could ever want and more can be found here:

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
M17xR2 is either 1440x900 or 1920x1200 RGBLED.
6970M or 6990M have been shown to work in the R2, unfortunately 580M SLI attempt was made and failed. -
Buying the 19x12 RGBLED after the fact will be much more expensive and probably not even worth the upgrade costs. Your better off finding a system in the NBR Marketplace that already has the screen with it. More cost efficient.

The only pain for me is finding somebody this side of the pond (uk) who actually sells them.
Had no luck so far and I don't fancy the international shipping costs either. -
6990s are sweet

I would not buy the laptop listed in that auction. You can buy one yourself straight from Dell with a 1200p monitor for $1200. Or you could buy one here on the forum. That laptop is one a reseller purchased from Delloutlet with a coupon and now they are marking it up. I bet they paid around $900 or less for it.
Get one with 1200p, and then you don't have to worry about upgrading the monitor.
Here is one with similar specs (&1200p) being sold by a respected NBR member, and it is only $1050. It is already sold, but you get the idea.

Another "Is it a viable upgrade" question...
