So, nearly 4 months of dealing with Dell customer service, having several technicians come to my house in an attempt to repair literally every part minus the disk drive, refusal upon refusal of system replacements, they finally did it. They finally replaced the whole system. It began with a messed up screen, speakers, and chassis and has now been completely replaced... with all new problems.

Right out of the box it ran like crap. Updated the drivers etc, did windows update in hopes of it running better etc, and guess what... it was listed as a 2.8 on the windows rating scale... Great.

I've now got a m17x r3, intel i7-2720qm 2.2 cpu, 8gb ram, gtx 560m, 3d screen, laptop with a 1.5TB HDD that doesn't work. Not only is it trying to start 3d in windows explorer which is the weirdest error I've ever seen, it hangs up, freezes, stops working all together, battery won't charge, computer's giving me errors about the charger not being powerful enough, ugh.... just a ton of problems, but on top of it all, they've said they'll replace it YET AGAIN... ugh so I'm going to have to wait a few more weeks. I bought this computer in April, got it in May and have been waiting nearly 5 months for a working computer all the while dealing with horrific customer service. I've sent update after update to the BBB, gone from supervisor to supervisor, manager to manager and still I wait...

I truly hate Dell and Alienware for that matter. Why people still buy these things I'll never understand. It's just a matter of time before they have a bad experience too and swear them off altogether.

The thing that drives me nuts though is every time I post an update on all this someone always comes in saying that dell is great, blah blah blah then proceeds to explain how they've replaced part after part in their systems... I had a toshiba for 4 years, never fell apart, had an apple for 3 years, was amazing, friend's have all had HP's etc, never a single problem... everyone I've known that's had a dell for a long period of time has had to replace at least a few things and in those people a good portion of them complain of the service and support... This company will one day tank and when it does I will rejoice!!!!

Wow, never thought of it like that. The arguement has me convinced. Off to post my new thread: WTT: M17x R2 in sig for Toshiba or Apple.

J/K. Good luck on the new replacement. Hope it works out better for you. Or sell it before you find a problem with it ;)

I love swearing off Dell posts! Can't get enough of them. I'm thinking of moving to HP myself. Wait, they probably won't be selling PC's anymore. Maybe Apple then. 10% of the computer users in the world can't be wrong. Hmmm....what's a Toshiba?

Take a replacement, use some persuasive arguing to get a better laptop for your troubles. Welcome to the real world where all computers have problems and you are one of the unlucky ones that got 2 in a row.

Got it back, they did absolutely nothing to it and in fact scratched the casing! They stated that whatever is wrong with it must be software related, however oddly enough I've yet to install a single piece of software on it, so it's all factory installed. Sent the BBB another notice (as I seem to get further by providing the with consistent updates on the issue).

Also sent customer service another email with pics showing the scratch etc.

It runs like crap as in constantly freezing, hangs constantly when doing simple tasks, sound often skips etc. I'm not being picky, there's no reason it should take nearly 5 minutes for the computer to load up, or for internet explorer to take several minutes to startup either. As for adding new drivers etc, I've only updated using the ones on the dell website under my specific model. I'm well aware as to how Dell works (aka blame others for doing the wrong thing etc). I even had an issue where my 3d was constantly trying to startup... in internet explorer and coming up with a bunch of new errors I've never seen before. It's faulty, yet again!

At this point they're looking to point the finger and I KNOW if I reinstall the OS they'll somehow find a way to blame me for anything going wrong. For the first month, they blamed me that it was cause I bought it in the US, then they tried blaming it all on me living in China, then on steam (which came installed on the system when it came). Now, to my surprise (total sarcasm there), I've found a nice cluster of dead pixels on the right of the screen... why did I ever buy this? Why didn't I just buy an apple or anything else and avoided these issues. It doesn't help that their repairmen (aside from a few nice and competent ones who haven't blamed ridiculous things for the issues) are absolute bags. They way the acted when they were IN MY HOUSE (even after I had been courteous offering something to drink and a snack) was absolutely outrageous!!!! I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER buy another product even slightly relating to Dell or alienware!

So I got an email from them today explaining that they'd let me go to the shop and pick one out... either the same model minus the 3d (yes, what a better deal, downgrade me please dell. That's seems worth my money and time), or the m18x at bottom end specs.... I politely told them to go ^(&% themselves in so many words, and that the only reason I purchased it was for the 3d.

I swear to it, it's like they're going out of their way to screw me over.... Why does Dell have be to be such a sham!?

I still have my dell vostro 1500 from back in 07. Still works like a champ...other than the GPU fan not working.

I've had toshiba satellite for 4 years...that thing would always overheat and shut down. I've always hated Toshiba cust serv.

Dell service has always been great to me. All of my work computers are from dell, and I deal with them quite a lot.

So the argument you're making is not convincing me.

Don't care if I'm convincing you or not, it's the truth. I'm glad you haven't had problems but there are a large portion of us who are, sadly the worst part is when we do have a problem (Which I can understand happens), you then have to deal with Dell Customer service. That's where the real complaints begin to happen. Promises get made, and never fulfilled, replacements come defective, repairmen have no idea what they're doing and often blame the consumer for faulty hardware, etc.

When you pay this kind of cash for something, you expect to receive decent support should anything go wrong with it. I see you've posted quite a few comments supporting AW when others have complained, which is great that you're a proud owner of your AW system. But just because things haven't gone wrong or haywire for you yet doesn't mean the same is true for everyone. Like I'd said before, I had a toshiba and absolutely loved it, loved their customer service, everything, now it doesn't mean that I don't believe you about your experience.

The thing that gets me though, is that I'm not the only one complaining. At Dell.com, here etc, a large portion of customers complain about defects, then immediately after that complain about the customer service, so clearly there must be some truth in it all or there wouldn't be such a large outcry for better quality and better customer service.
