For Canadian orders, you have to order by phone to get the AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5

No love in the Great White North for the 6970.......

Called a Dell Rep who said probably close to the end of the month as orders in the US taper off from the initial release, though she did say she could place an order for one. Didn't get into prices or anything.

It's available now. Call them and tell them a salesperson was able to add it manually from their side. They'll put it in for you. It's 300$ more than the 6870M. I'm in Canada and I just ordered mine today :) It's been available well over a week now as long as you ask them to put it in.

As long as you say another salesperon was able to add it manually they'll have it. My salesperson's extension was 4162487 though if you need it.

Follow Dave3's advice. The first sales rep I spoke with would not configure the card for me because it wasn't available on their website. I followed Dave3's advise and the second rep hooked me up with the 6970m. I can't wait to get my M17x! I got 7% off the laptop and I was also able to get a discount on the 3 year complete coverage warranty. Ask if the price of the warranty is negotiable and act like you can't afford the extra expense.

I looked on Dell Canada website and the 2048MB AMD HD6970M is listed under specs but when you configure your AW, there is no choices for that card.

What Dell's waiting to add that card to the choice ?

If you call Dell and order your R3 by telephone the rep can manually configure the 6970m into your pc. It does cost $300. Just follow Dave3's instructions on this thread. It works I ordered mine with it.

I am not sure what they are waiting for. It's available on most of the other Dell/Alienware websites just not Canada's for some reason. Why do you need to order it via the web? You can configure what you want online and order by telephone that's how I did it and it's easy.

I know it is annoying they don't have it on their site but your options are limited. Order by telephone and get the 6970m, don't get the video card you want or wait.

On the Dell USA website, price for AMD HD 6970M is US$250.00

and Dell Canada sell that card for 300.00 $CAD ?

We are ripped off again :D

One of the benefits of ordering by telephone is that you can negotiate the price. I got $250 off on the online deal+ 7% off the full price and $100 off the advanced warranty. I saved about $600-700 compaired to if you configured the base model.

Paying an extra 50$ for the card is life. Europeans pay a lot more.

I called Dell Canada and the guy who i talked said that the card is unavailable on their website because there is almost no demand for it in Canada.

He can add it manually by calling somewhere.

Not sure what you mean but that sounds strange but I guess you are out of luck. It will have to be either the 6870m or 460m for you.

Nothing strange, i was approved for a remplacement and the guy from the tech support said i have to build my new laptop from Dell website.

6870m or 460m benchmark are not terrible.

No choice, i have to wait until 6970M is available on Dell Canada.

I was put in the same situation as you, but then told my rep that I will be contacting sales on my own via phone. I did so and the rep happily placed my order with a 6970 - he even applied my extremely large percentage based discount that the tech rep promised me without any questions.

If anyone in Canada (only) needs the extension of a fantastic sales rep to purchase a new - or replacement - system, drop me a pm and I'll hook you up.

I can confirm that it's possible to place your m17x r3 order with the 6970m.

Order by phone, some say no problem, some say of course. My first call said of course.

Hi, it's been a while now that im searching for a new laptop and i find that the M17x R3 is the best choice.

So i start custumise it online and found, like you, that we don't get the 6970M...

But the big problem is that i call several time ,and with like 6 different person...they all said that was impossible ...like....IMPOSSIBLE loll...

How te hell did you manage to find someone who said YES?? lol, maybe im too late and they don't want to do it anymore??

P.S ive call in french service because im french and ,like you notice, my english sucks.

Do you think it will be a difference if i talk to someone in english or something like that?...i tried so hard to get this done, even if i said i will pay MOARR just for the god damn card they don't want to do it..

The worse in all that is that the girl (sale representative) i talk with said that the burner, the ram and the card fit ,but it's the ''administration'' they dont want to do it....

Another question, i want 1600mhz ram and the triple writer (like in the M18x)
Do you think that your guy will said yes?, (i'm shure it fit no problem yes?)

Thanks for all of you, and sorry for my english.....if someone can help me get this card and the triple writer it would be so cool!

I just wanted to say thanks for the forum thread.

I live in Canada and was looking and looking and I couldn't find a laptop with a really good graphics card (that would fit my budget). The 460M and 560M's are everywhere but they don't have the power I want.

When I checked alienware's canadian site the 6970 is literally not an option... i was like .. these guys are supposed to be competitive.

Once I read this thread I contacted Dell directly and they hooked me up. Got a new M17X with the ATI 6970M comming to me ;)

Cheers... hope I am happy with the laptop!
