Hey All,
I literally bought this laptop because I have a long commute to work and friends offer me a place to crash all the time. I wanted to be able to still game on the go. Primarily I wanted to play FFXIV on at least Hi-Settings. I thought this system could handle it. It seems it's riddled with Driver compatibility issues. I'm thinking of sending it back and using that $$$ for a very powerful desktop instead. I might not get to play a much but when I do I wont be staring at my 20-30 Fps and thinking how fail it is. That's in an open area, I'm sure big endgame battles it'll be much worse with more action going on. Anyone else with me on this? Am I doing something wrong? Something not setup right, or is it purely just poor drivers. My 2nd GPU doesn't even fire up when playing FFXIV.
-
Hey there
Got my standard edition a day earlier, currently wondering where i should go to play and which name i like to chose... Damn i hate decisions...
I'm currently on 10.9a drivers, will test those and see what i get
You might also like to follow this and see if you also have an improvement like Sabaku:

I'm on Rabanastre if you want to play with me. My chars name is Jekt Jenkins.
He had major performance boost with it? Can't wait to go home and try it out. Can you post me the link so I can read that forum? Do
I need to set up a profile? I'm not familiar with ATI at all. I always had Nvidia cards. -
(See link above, read from page 6)
Yeah he said he had the same performance as you and he even played it on lower resolution, now he plays it in full native resolution and has around 60fps in city. I have to see if i can confirm this, as i know how this driver performed in the open beta, but well, didn't had much time to actually tweak things and test more back then.
But if i do something, i wanna see how i get the max. out of it, befor i say, screw it, let's wait for 10.10.
Should be all in there, install driver manually from the small guide. Use 10.9a app profiles, reset CCC, play the game.
BTW: I'm gonna join Lindblum, as i've seen many of my old friends from FFXI went there -
Sorry guys but I'm not sure where to post, it's about FF 14. They are really gonna limit your gameplay time per week? I still thinks it's quite sadded that you payed for something, yet they limit your gamplay time.
-
What do you mean limit gameplay time?
There is way too much to do... I don't even know what to begin with
There is a fatigue system in the game, that kinda "forces" you to play the other classes aswell. It's encouraged to switch classes and mix their abilities, so you can build your own style of class and fit to your likes.
Edit: Just played a little with the 10.9a drivers, scaling is so random, don't think you want to test those for FFXIV. I think we have to wait for 10.10 CAT. -
Hey guys im also not really happy atm with ffxiv i am seeing wavy lines from time to time sometimes alot, and i crash often too somedays.
-
Try latest Radeonpro and force V.Sync and your wavy lines are gone.
I'm also trying to find a good setting. But that config and scaling is totally random, once it's working, once it doesn't anymore. I have a hard time to reproduce anything with this Game yet. lol -

RadeonPro :: Radeon Profiles Tool
1.0.9.4
I'm currently messing around with it, best thing so far i noticed is setting Vsync On and set Alternate Frame Rendering, like that the gpu is scaling much nicer imo. -
thx man will give it a shot hope it works
-
one question grim ive never used this before i just install it and set settings under global yea or do i need save and load profile when i use it on my cc? im assuming i just save and exit it and it works on its own or do i need have it open and load profiles?
-
Redirect a profile to FFXIVGame.exe and then set your prefered options under profile, tweaks and individual CCC settings for each app. Note that this may overide CCC settings and a mismatch is possible. Maybe uninstall CCC (haven't tried yet)
BTW: There is maintenance now, so have to wait another 2 hours to test again. -
I've been playing for ~ 3-4 hour streaches almost every day this week and I managed:
Level 8 Weaver
Level 8 Conjuruer
Level 7 Bontanist
Level 4 Goldsmith
Level 12 hard Level
I probally need to go level mining too for goldsmith, and I'll probally eventually need leatherworking for some of my weaving, and woodworking for staffs and stuff. Fishing/culinary for food/drinks, and alchemy for potions. Also need thautamage as a subjob for my Conj.
I figured when they first brought that up that it wouldn't be so bad, and I was right. Your hard level is the one that gives you points to distribute anyway, and you get exp twoards it for it anytime you do anything that gives exp, even if it didnt give you exp for the skill you're currently at.
That's another 5-6 skills I need to level. -
@Grimfan
What are these profiles that people talk about? Again I'm not familiar with ATi cards/drivers. I'm probably going to need some walking through the whole setup. -
They are like hotfixes along catalyst software, just install them aswell. Google: Catalyst Application profiles, latest one is 10.9
Also, screw CrossFire for the moment on FFXIV. I get smooth 45 fps in gridania, full scaling, 10.9a driver. I'm comfortable for the moment and enough getting the game work properly on Crossfire. Play the game on single HD5870 until we get a proper driver that supports this game. -
These profile don't differ from their Desktop Counterparts?
What is your FFXIV Configuration settings at? Resolution, Texture Filter Settings etc.
What is weird is that I'll be getting 60FPS and then it'll just drop and never go back up again. Also, if I die and rez at the Aetheryte Stone my character can't move. He's just stuck there for liek 20 seconds while everything loads. It's so frustrating. It doesn't do it on my PC -
this is strange, i've been playing 14 on my r2 for about 5 days now, with cf, on native res, no aa, but shadows and textures on high and have yet to encounter a graphical problem...
all i've done is 8.763 & vbios; nothing else. -
-
-
I don't check frame rates but I'm working with a 720 and a single 5870 right Now without slowdown either.
-
Download fraps and check your framerates. I'm personally not happy with 20-30 FPS because once endgame large scale battles take place your will tank. I want it to be able to handle that at least in the mid 20's.
-
i just checked w/fraps and readings were fluctuating between 27 and 54 with a base of 59 @ character* idle. i will agree with the vertical line issue as i have seen it during the start up menus but never in game play. the only problem i'm currently having with the game is that at times after a leve or after teleportation i experience some lag; where in my character appears to be at the destination but hasn't actually loaded, nothing serious i just wait a little longer than most. i've attributed it to connection issues as i'm on a wireless connection but haven't gotten around to actually testing it out with a wired connection (i'm lazy
) but like i said, i can live w/ a little lag for such a stunning mmo.
lolzedits -
ok so i just ran fraps and was getting between 9-15 fps in game, that's without playing around with any settings, do i have to disable the eye candy or disable crossfire to get it more stable? and if i do have to disable CFX ummm how?......im new to this cf business.
-
turn off ao and dof off.
-
I played earlier today, I have AO and DOF off, 2xMSAA and aside from the server issues I'm really enjoying the game, I have had very little trouble technically since they did server maintenance and it has been running alot better, the game will play alot better in the coming months and look forward to the improvements that will come
-
I'm getting horrible FPS on my R1--about 15-20 FPS. Is this just me?
Anyone with and R1/nVidia cards have any driver or settings suggestions?
I'm not sure if the game supports SLi and I'm not sure how to check to see if both cards are working in game; if anyone could answer that for me I'd appreciate it... -
EDIT: ok so i did that and have much better fps a min of 15 in heavy traffic and up into the 30's still not what i expected but much more fluent now...thanks for the tips -
oh yeah; ambient occlusion and depth of field, though really neat features, tax the sh!t out of my r2 and are a definite no-go for me.
not fair, but i'm confident SE will address all server issues by the 30th.
ha ha, just now global message came up for mandatory maintenance in 15 min... see that, SE all over it.
/grin -
I seem to be getting low frame rates too, generally around 15-20 in city, when crowded can go down to around 8. which is pretty low. Is this normal?
Those of you getting 40-60, what drivers do you have installed?
I haven't tried Catalyst 10.9a, would that make a difference?
Also something interesting to note. I'm not sure whats the story, but according to FFXIV benchmark, my score has shooted down significantly.
When i first tried it a month or so ago before all the new drivers came out, i got about 3200 on low and 2000 on high.
Now with the new drivers/bios/vbios, i just ran it and got 2400 on low and 1500 on high.
Is this normal?
What are you guys getting? -
But i should note though that there seems to be a bug with it, when i ran the benchmark video, its stuffed up, polygons etc covering up the characters. Check the image attached to see.
Any of you guys getting this?Attached Files:

Hmm, not good this seems to be the case in-game as well
Grim, any suggestions on how to fix this? these crazy green lines are all over.
On the bright side the performance does seem to have improved quite a bit and game runs much smoother, close to 40 Fps outside, so thanks for that, although in this current state, cant really play like this. Im hoping i dont need to roll back to the crappy performance driver.. -
not getting any green lines here, its a little buggy, servers have crashed a number of times today, but other than that im actually really enjoying the game
-
-
Will try to disenable/reenable crossfire. -
-
Thanks Grim, that seems to have fixed it
Reset to default settings and disabled & enabled crossfire. Thats a relief.
Will + Rep if i can, you'll be the first
Good job on all the info and assistance!
Although, was just playing FF and it seems when theres bit of crowd, goes down to about 10 FPS. highest ive seen in a quiet area is almost 40. -
-
i'm on 10.7 (stock for me); if its not broken don't fix it
but like grim has said before, play around with things, try latest drivers and if its of epic /facepalm roll back to the ones you had before. all i've done to my r2 was the trident of win that was released (a09>driver>vbios) recently. i have not played around with profiles, as i seem to be very intimidated by them, plus w/o issues there is no real reason for me to be messing around with stuff. -
lol great, i know what that means for me, flashing old vbios back, live with the windows issues, play the game
Edit: But, no wait... 10.7 is working for you on new vbios? -
LOL i knew you'd say something.
i've been thinking about this for some time now but i swear to you i haven't updated ccc at all, never, not once. so either i'm ****ing stupid or i really am running vbios on 10.7? -
I'm gonna test it.
Anyway i kinda found the problem that causes the issue for bad scaling for my case in some ocassions. When i login and i'm on the field i get like 40 fps at 99% load each card, but as soon i cast a spell, performance gets halfed to 20fps and both cards only give like 60%. Currently tested on 8.763 Dell Driver. -
All reasons why I have 285's otw..
-
Ok guys, i'm currently on the old vbios and 10.9a Grim Edition lol and i get solid 40-60 fps in the field, haven't been so smooth ever. I will flash back to new vbios now and see if the vbios is the culprit of the bad scaling i experience with almost any other driver 10.8+
And decoy, i was not able to have the 10.7 mobility driver work on new vbios, BSOD before Windows as known. But on old vbios that driver was also quite performing well.
But my best option so far is 10.9a and old vbios.
Also since i installed Catalyst 10.7 first, the base for CCC is 10.7, maybe the new builds of CCC have an influence aswell. But let's first flash back to new vbios and see if i still get the same performance... -
I'm so confused as to what to do to get this working. I'm pretty new to computer lingo and how things work. If anyone could walk me through getting this running (updating drivers, etc...), I would greatly appreciated. My wife basically asked my older brother to go to Alienware website and build me the best laptop possible. Now, I'm stuck trying to figure out what to do to make it work the best. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-
-
elaborate please, old vbios meaning beta or a different one altogether? because i sure as phuck didn't mess around with the beta
*i also never touched 10.9 or any variations of!
*and i know i didn't upgrade to 10.8 because of this...
-
Got this working last night. I will be signing up shortly.
-
Why is there always a maintenance in the evening GMT times... I get home, get maintenance, can wait 4 hours, can play 2 hours, nice S-E. Atleast the game is running fine for now, i hope it still does when they stopped screwing around the servers.
And decoy, but then you must have still the old vbios, the one that came from factory. And yeah there aren't many problems with this game on single card, if you feel like you had enough messing around, just try it once on single card and see how it works out for the meantime for you.
I'm still on the old vbios and 10.9a driver. Might try 10.6 cat later if i get the chance. -
It's release date, hopefully maintiance times will be, less..
Any FFXIV players as disappointed as I am?
