There are 3 available processor options for the M17x R3, I'm wondering what the difference is between the 2.4 and the 2.5 ghz options. I notice that the 2.5 ghz has a larger cache (8mb instead of 6mb) but other than that, are there any significant differences?

Is it worth shelling out 350 for the 2860QM, or does it make more sense to go with the 2.4 ghz 2760QM?

no not worth it IMO, the 2760 is a good place to be...maybe even the 2670 and then you can upgrade yourself later on for much cheaper compared to what dell charges

CPUs on ebay are plentiful and cheap

CPU upgrades suffer from extreme diminishing returns. You get minimal gains from going up in models but pay a fortune for each incremental step up. Majority of users will suffice with the minimum CPU. Since you're probably a gamer, I would wager and say most of the games you will be playing are GPU bound and hence will not notice any benefit from a CPU upgrade. So save your money.
