    Hey guys,

I watched the Alienware event last night and I am impressed with the new systems. I was looking to buy a m17x for a few months now, but I decided to wait for the new ones. I am going to be a freshman in college in August so I need a good laptop I can use for school work as well as gaming. I don't want to go to college broke so I'm trying to spend as little as possible with this laptop. My configuration is as follows:

    PROCESSOR- 4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ (6MB Cache, up to 3.4GHz w/ Turbo Boost)

    MEMORY- 16GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz

    DISPLAY- 17.3" WLED FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-Glare Display

    HARD DRIVE - 750GB SATA 3Gb/s (7,200 RPM)

    VIDEO CARD- NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 780M with 4GB GDDR5

    TOTAL PRICE - $2,149 after $50 coupon.

I am going to be a student so can I get the student discount?

My parents work for a Dell EPP company can I get a discount for that too?

If I call Dell to order, how much can I get off? I was aiming for 15-20% off on the old system, can I get that on the new one as well?

    Thanks for reading.

Ive been trying to get some kind of discount today, They don't seem to be budging at least in the US or I've had terrible luck. Or I guess my haggling skills suck but still Ive always been able to talk a few dollars off thing but not an inch today.

So I just called Dell and I managed to get a price of $2,000 on a system worth $2,200. I'm happy I was able to get almost 10% off on a just released system. I also managed to get a $200 Dell eGift card as well as 2nd day shipping. The sales rep I talked to easily took off the $200 and applied the shipping and gift card without even mentioning them. I'm extremely satisfied.

    My configuration is as follows:

    4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ processor (6MB Cache, up to 3.4GHz)

    16GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz

    17.3" WLED FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-Glare Display

    750GB SATA 3Gb/s (7,200 RPM)

    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 780M with 4GB GDDR5

I DID NOT order yet as I told them I will talk to them again tomorrow to make the final transaction. So before then, is this a good deal or should I try to do better?

    Thanks.

Yes it has the 780M. I'm surprised I got something off as I never negotiated on the phone before. Basically with the $200 discount I got the $1999 configuration with a free 780M upgrade. :)

I find a good tactic is to build my config, decide how much I want to pay (usually I knock 10% off the bottom line) and say, 'if you can do that I will order with you right now'. Never paid more than 10% off but with the demand I am seeing, why would dell want to discount? They do change daily with discounts and by location so when sales fall back the discounts will return ;)
