Out of the loop on the newest gen. There was a return where I work, 4710HQ and R9 290XM equipped... may be able to grab it cheap.

Is there any throttling, overheating, or other issues that have been happening consistently with the newest models?

The i7-4700MQ runs at bit hot but some decent thermal grease fixes the problem.. No issues with R9 290MX... I would grab it if its cheap.. And how's the warranty too? Should be a 11 months or so at least left right?

Few people have had issues with the soft touch peeling...but short of that none that are of major concern. The 880m has been a disaster but that is more of an Nvidia problem, same as the overly warm CPU's are more of an Intel issue.

I've owned a few. There are no flaws worth mentioning. Some minor issues with performance and throttling, but most were resolved months ago with BIOS updates and drivers.

The AW 17 is a solid system. The AW 14 and AW 18 both had the most complaints, as far as being considered an "upgrade" from the previous generation.

I agree with J.Dre, when I got my laptop it used to bsod alot, but a bios update fixed that. Any issues right now with the laptop is with software and can be fixed. The only thing I hate about owning an Alienware is the haters, these people get very annoying and like to spread tons of misinformation.

The trick to dealing with them is just presume they are jealous little morons who wish they had one and can't afford one. Hatting on Alienware is their coping mechanism. Besides we know better anyways...

I am probably not the right person to be contributing to the thread, bearing in mind my recent experiences, but the support outside the US (don't know about Canada) is less than spectacular........

I've no problem with the design, performance, etc; the aesthetics are wonderful, but after-sales service? Read my thread about it!

This is the thread in case you want to read it. Fortunately, we were able to get Dave sorted out recently. About technical issues on the machine, there aren't any specific ones to this platform, you won't encounter any strange behaviors or issues unless a hardware component goes bad (this is understandable because the machine has electronic components that can fail like any other brand). For any issues like those, there's always a warranty that'll help get things straight.

+1 for pointing out that all brands can fail....so many people play the Alienware is bad because something failed in some friend of a cousins sisters uncle's laptop as if no other brand has ever failed.

As Porras has pointed out, there is warranty and please for the love of all that is holy, upgrade that warranty to more then the standard 12 months....

I only have an Alienware because my Clevo couldn't handle much overclocking and died a quick death.
