Why is this question asked so often? How dirty do peoples' laptops get that necessitate so much cleaning? My last laptop, I had for almost 3 years, and the only time I seriously cleaned it was to sell it. I used a normal towel to wipe smudges off, and a q-tip with alcohol on it for the couple difficult spots. This did not require looking on the internet for advice, but just came from simple common sense.

If your laptop requires frequent cleaning, maybe you should treat it better...

You have to admit that the soft touch finish is somewhat more difficult to maintain compared to other finishes. I have a 3 yr old XPS 1530 that looks brand new and a really old inspiron as well. It also has a lot to do with the environment you use the laptop in. We have quite a bit of dust were I work and it can be quite abrasive if you're not careful.

i just use a soft microfiber cloth to dust it everyday. more importantly i clean the insides every 2 week by blasting compressed air to clean the fans and vents.

Now, if I did what you did to my laptop, I believe I would clean it a lot more regularly...I imagine that new finish gives you an upped level of pride in your baby's appearance.

Just throw that bad boy in the sink with a little Dawn to bust up that grease and grime!! If it works for animals covered in oil it must work for laptops covered in fingerprints...right??

I somehow feel COMPELLED to point out that this is total sarcasim btw...

Rubbing alcohol works with a napkin. Clorox or GreenWorks wipes too.

Completly dissasembel it and throw the plastic parts in the dishwasher. For the mobo compressed air will work just fine.

    Screen(Once a week):
Moisten a dusting cloth and squeeze excess water out so its almost dry,
Alternatively you can: Breathe on it so that it fogs up the screen,
    Wipe down with dusting cloth,
Reverse the cloth and wipe down again.
*As the screen is gloss I sometimes find it attracts dirt and requires a quick dust down in the morning or throughout a heavy-gaming day*

    Keyboard & Touchpanel (Once a week/month):
Wipe down with Antibacterial wipe (cheap from store),
    Wipe down with dusting cloth,
Reverse the cloth and wipe down again.
*Keyboards can harbour bacteria that can make you ill*

Rest of the laptop(Once a month):
    Wipe down with dusting cloth.

Fragrence free baby wipes work wonders.

Not too wet to cause damage, but damp enough to clear finger prints/dust etc.
