Exactly as the title asks , wondering if anyone has ever just purchased and replaced the cells in their Alienware battery, in particular the Alienware 17R1. Part number 0KJ2PX. Mine crapped out a few days ago and I have a new one on order just curious if it has been attempted. The cells themselves don't seem to be a whole lot cheaper on Ebay and I am not sure if cracking the battery open will break something or if the battery cells are soldered to anything inside. I will probably try to get into the old one just for fun to see what is inside.

EDIT: Upon further investigation, a few people have attempted it on different models and the result is a cobbled together battery in most cases and it never recovers the longevity of a new battery so I guess that answers that lol.

I actually though about it, I read that individual cells would be easier not like the full pack we have. Tampering with that could be anti-productive. Plus stock a spare one soon else they all will be out of stock. I too got a new one (Simplo one 2% wear - out of the box, Samsung one was out of stock..) weirdly old one gave some spark and didn't work with the Desktop battery mode.

I tried this on the Alienware 14. The solder job was easy enough, and even getting everything back in the case wasn't a problem. But that pack never did work after that. Not sure if that is one of those that requires it to remain powered while the batteries are removed or not. I know Lenovo requires this on their W series, or the pack firmware is wiped, I am not sure how to prove this on the Alienware.

Seems to be par for the course from what I found for info. A few people have tried but the results were never as good as just buying a new battery unfortunately.
