Don't worry, you're not gonna hurt it. Your system will become unstable and/or freeze long before you get the BCLK high enough to do any thermal damage. You can't really overclock these CPU's, unless you get yourself a 2920xm which has unlocked multipliers. All we are allowed to do is adjust the BCLK, which is not a very effecient way to overclock these chips and will only yield about 5% max.

The stock setting is 9980. My machine seems stable up to 10400 or so. Though, I notice strange behavior in benchmarks beyond about 10100. The CPU score continues to go up as I OC the CPU higher, as I'd expect, but the graphics score starts to drop. Very strange, and I don't know if it's just unique to 3DMark.

There are no overclocking capabilities for sandy bridge if you don't have an XM cpu. These are multiplier locked.

You do realize you can't overclock it on your m17x right? I meant sandy bridge as an architecture....The XM cpu's are useless right now to us.

Following the link above they say its 100% unlocked BIOS A08. Am I missing something? Page 4 or so one without any other modifications. Don't trust whole module modifications and have ATI anyway.

The BIOS is unlocked. All the hidden options are open. There are NO options for overclocking or changing the multiplier on the R3, only on the M18x.

Unless I'm mistaken, the R3 bios does not have overclocking options.

So modified BIOS does not even allow throttlestop control? What is the point of the BIOS being unlocked if it does not? Already ordered at the very least I can try the m18x one that was modified to run on m17x. The one everyone is scared to try ;)

EDIT: FYI there is an overclocking section on the m17x BIOS its just kinda limited. About to insall this modified A08 to see what it adds at least.

Unless theres something different about this bios there is no way to adjust the multi of ANY of the cpus even the 2920xm.the past modded bios versions didn't unlock multi even in tstop. And on the overclock level it depends on your individual rig,i can run 106 ask day long on stock cooling our up to 107.2 with more cooling where my first rig wouldn't even run at 100.2.
