*note I live in Canada and rather not have a headache trying to score one from the U.S. Also i will be using Dell.ca prices. Plus Mfractal removed his post from
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/452304-how-order-dell-us-non-us-citizens.html

I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on this, can anyone share their experience haggling over the phone?

I didn't find much info (read the first 10 pages and the last 30-40 pages of the order advice thread) got some good tips from it tho.

planning on a 2720qm (4gb ram, 320 hhd, blueray player, 1920*1080 60Hz and 6970 gpu) and upgrade the ram, wifi (to a 6300) and HD with a SSD at a later date. Price is 2099.99 plus $150 for going from 6870 to 6970 (not configurable on the website found on a another thread).

So that brings the price up to 2249.99

Should I upgrade the wifi card now? $80 option at dell.ca. I heard this card is pretty cheap and it's mainly for WiDi support.

I'm really having trouble justifying getting a BD combo unit, I don't actually own any Blueray discs/players/ps3. So bite the bullet or should upgrade that later?

I called in and configured the system with them and then said "look, I need a 15% discount." The first guy said no, so I hung up.

2nd guy said "sure, I can do that. Do you have any coupons to add on top of that?"

edit: Also, it's +$300 to upgrade to 6970 in Canada, not $150

Thanks!!! that sounded pretty easy :)

    How recently did you order?

edit, $300 for the upgrade I guess I'll have to live with that. Shoot $150 sounded so much better lol. Too many days (8) of browsing all these forums.

HONESTLY, if you live in Vancouver/Toronto, you can order from Dell.com, and find a warehouse just across the border to pick it up from. (IE: Home Point Roberts Package Receiving US address for Canadians) Do that, claim it at the border, pay the taxes (if they try to put a fee on top of it, tell them it's a duty free product made in the US. But you do need to pay local taxes), and bam, you have it for up to $500 cheaper.

It's what I'm going to do. I refuse to pay more when our dollar is up.
