Well, just looked today and found a nice deep dent in the glass covering the screen. Dont know what caused it. Since I travel allot it probably happened during transit, and the stone that caused it must have hidden in the keyboard because I wipe this thing down every time I take it somewhere.
Is anyone else's screen cover suffered yet from some sort of damage? Is there any rememdy you could recomend to get rid of it? like some wipe-on magic glass?![]()

My R1 had several pits after a few months. My R2 *always* sees a MF towel between the glass and keyboard for that exact reason. The rubber feet on the palm rest as you found out are absolutely useless after a week and they've settled down. the Right side one is always worse than the left for some reason.
it's glass, other than maybe getting it professionally sanded out there's no solution. -
Then snip-snip goes my microfiber towel...but I find the MF Towel places the screen in an "unnatural" position. If I close the lid it is no longer flush with the frame. If it just stayed on my desk I wouldn't mind, but if I travel with it in an "unseated" position, I'm worried about warping either the spring mechanism or the screen over time.
eh...will have to see -
I dont think it is glass. It is plastic glass doesn't bend when you push on it.
-
claxdog is correct it isnt glass... it is a plastic sheet...

CptXabaras Overclocked, Overvolted, Liquid Cooled
then it is plexyglass
-
plexyglass is plastic.

Either way, it dents
Found 3 more dents this morning, like a tiny stone is being pressed into the screen. And I already started using a MF cloth to protect it during transport. If it is this hard to keep it clean and clear, I just might have to do the screen mod where i tear this plastic thing right off! -
I have issues with "spots"that I cant get off.I am thinking about doing the screen mod also.
-
spots or cavities? I just use tap water and everything comes off with a MF towel.
-
Apple uses a simlar material as their "glass". I played around with like 4 macbook pros and they all had some flex when i pressed into the screen.
-
cavities, real ones. used water, lens cleaner, MF cloth, normal cotton. I can put my fingernail into the hole. It wont come be comming out.
-
you have to take special care on how you close the lid... if u just drop it down it slams shut (possibly pressing on all the tiny stone like particles on the palmrest area... hence the dents)... better is to hold it all the way down untill its closed... I am yet to find any unremovable spots... but i have the "dust under screen" issue...but it hasnt started to bother me much yet...
-
Luckly I have no dust, that WOULD drive me crazy!
But I am as careful possible. Sometimes the lid slips, and it would slam once or twice. And now that I think about it i bet it was the way airport security last handled it.
But I know there is suppose to be some sort of liquid that would help fill in the gaps if scratches exist. I dont think it will help my dents, but it might be good to have on hand if something else happens. Something like this: ( link) -

I find that Pledge multi-surface clean & dust spray does an amazing job on my edge to edge screen, it was recommended to me by another NBR member, though i have an Samsung notebook and not an Alienware.

I had indentations on my screen. They were actually caused by the touchpad!
If I looked close I could see hexigon cavities in the screen. Sent closeup photos to dell and they replaced the screen. I now use the cloth pouch that came with my M17x to cover the lid before closing. -
Don't - I've got lots of scuffs and scratches on my screen - I have to use my laptop in dirty, dusty, gritty environments while working - I tried Displex Displex Display Polish - Scratch Remover: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics Luckily I tried it at the edge, it just 'smeared' the indentations and scratches, looks like crap. Very glad I didn't try it over the actual display.

Thanks Kissarmy, I did think it over and wondered how good an idea it would be to smear more chemicals on the screen. I'll live with my cavities as is.
-
I have a fairly decent sized scratch in the screen that was there when it was shipped to me. Got my new laptop, opened it up all excited like, and saw the scratch. Got really pissed.
I didn't rma or tell alienware about it because I went through such a **** hassle to get it in the first place I wasn't letting it out of my possession. -
oh yeah, i've had those in my R1. which is why I use a towel and very carefully close the lid now.
-
Every day, every time it moves, and every lid close there is a MF cloth in between screen and laptop. I haven't seen any new cavities yet, so I think it is working. Screen is still tight on the hinges too, so no worries there. Wish I was more aware that this could happen, before it happened
To aarpcard: You deserve to get it replaced. There is also a thread by speedy that gives some hints on how to remove the plastic altogether. You get a matte screen but lose warenty. Your choice.
-
Get a shaggymac screen protector. I'm ordering one myself.
-
I've got one really good sized cavity in mine caused by a grain of sand and shows up hella bad when theres white on the screen. Have a few smaller ones that are only noticable when you use your finger nail. (All happened at the same time too
) Now days I'm using my uber thin mouse mat to try and protect it. When it comes to cleaning I've been using good ol' Windex and MF cloths. I also noticed 2 weeks after I got my laptop the right hand rubber foot settled and really doesnt do much.
-
it's very easy to scratch, dust is worst enemy for the screen, I keep a lint free cloth between screen and KBoard

spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
I also got some light scuffs around the edges near speakers. I never carry my notebook even though I got those. Strange!! Also I hate those 2 black rubber marks in the LCD which gets there when I close my LCD.

I am so careful with my screen, but AW did a bad job designing the rubber stoppers on the face of the laptop (just below the keys on the board). I have little indentations where the touchpad touches the screen when it is closed. I am thinking about taking the old ones (rubber stoppers) out, and putting new bigger ones in. With that I have found new screen covers on Ebay (Link in the bottom of the post). so for about $50.oo I can get a new screen, and never have it dented by the touchpad again. Something you may all want to consider doing.

I wish that they had done the same as Apple, the thin continuous ring of neoprene round the whole of the screen on the new macbooks seems an excellent way of both keeping a gap between the base and the screen and also preventing foreign objects geting between the screen and base during transit. I expect apple has patented that design feature.
-
The photo was a bit unclear so I emailed the seller asking if it is the complete edge to edge screen cover with the black bordering the screen or if it is just the surround bezel with a hole where the screen is. He replied that it is the bezel only.

Damn... thanks for the heads up man, you jsut saved me $40.00 =^_^=
