There is a closed thread in the M15 section from a couple of years back, where some folk had bought the small right angled power plug adaptor made by Bixnet.

I have just bought one myself for when I use my machine in bed, to make sure no pressure is put on the power socket at the back of the laptop.

However, (and no one has mentioned this in the old thread) when I use the adaptor, on power up, I get a message saying my laptop couldn't determine the power of the AC adaptor and it might affect charging....or something like that.

Now considering this plug has no components, other than giving you a right angle, I'm at a loss as to why that should be. I switched back to the regular plug and it all works fine again? Any ideas? Thanks.

They could have possibly in the newer revision that you purchased removed the middle pin. The pin is dead centre of the connector and carries the ID signal from the PSU.

Check if its present by comparing it to the original connector from the PSU. If it is, the pin connection is most likely damaged within the connector. The laptop needs that ID signal to validate that the PSU being used is an officially supported adapter.

Thought that may well have been the case after reading your post, but the pin is present and correct and has continuity as I checked it.

Only slight thing I can see, is that the end where I plug my power supply in, the hole for accepting the pin is quite large and it may just not be making contact very well. For the sake of a right angle, I think I'll avoid it :)
