Anyone with 920/940XM CPU played FIFA 11?

Hi Peeps,

I was just wondering if there was anyone out there with a Core i7 920/940XM cpu that has tried or played FIFA 11 on their system? If so how well and fast does it run? Do you see a marked improvement in FIFA 11 or any other games. Please give out details of your experience. A nice story would be great to read LOL. ehahahaah

Please feel free to voice your opinions and upgrade storys of upgrading from a lower SPECed CPU to the tip TOP of the range XMs. How much of a difference you feel in daily normal tasks and in gaming. I love me a good story lol.

I am currently running the specs in my Sig for the R2. The game runs fine but I would like it to be running faster.

I have overclocked the 740QM with SetFSB and now FIFA 11 runs like Usain Bolt. So thats more like it oles. Is there a way I can setup the OC to run everytime I shutdown and restart the notebook. So I don't have to keep applying the OC everytime I start up the notebook again? Any tips of ways to do this? Thanks.

I was just thinking I don't really want to have to OC every time so I might just get the 940XM CPU soon. However if I can setup the OC to load up automatically each time windows starts up then I can hold off on the purchase for now and wait till it gets even cheaper next year sometime.

How does the 740qm run? how much overclock can you achieve?

I'm asking becuse i'm not decided yet for my starting config wich cpu to use. Thinking about 620m (and i'll do the upgrade to 920xm as soon as i can)

I can OC it to about 2ghz base from the 1.73Ghz stock clock.

I just use setFSB and change the bits to 29 20 and 39. Works great. Its only for games like FIFA 11 which need a higher clock rate I think. Other newer games will be fine with the 740QM. Everything else runs like Usain Bolt. Oles!

If your planning to upgrade to the XM cpus soon enough I would then recommend you just buy the cheapest available CPU from Dell. That way you can save some money and put it towards the new XM cpu or SSDs.

The batch file or the scheduling method should work, using the -i and -q etc. The information is kinda spread over the pages but it should get your job done eh. The rest of what I found is a lot of people saying they don't recommend setFSB . Good luck!

 

Im on a 720 and cant get setfsb to work in games but in vantage i get 10770 without setfsb and 11420 with. 3dmark06 i get without 2900 and with 3500 (1.82ghz) and a total of 15780p. But when it comes to games it lowers up to 10 fps. Even if i oc 0.1 ghz i get 2-7 less fps. I just raises from 139 and up lets say 160 and get stable oc. Perhaps i should try oc in set fsb in some other way. Anybody

Nice OCs there chiefs and nice scores ole.

MKelliny helped me out with these instructions last time to OC my CPU. I'm not sure if your already using the same settings.


You find the right clock generator which is ICS9LPRS365BGLF then hit get FSB

Then you goto the Diagnosis tab and change these PLL registers hit update after each value is changed
00/00 to 29 from 21
00/10 this is where all the magic happens 31 is stock but you can get it up to 39 with some voltage tweaks in the bios
00/0C you want to change that to 20

00/0F is another part of the magic this can be changed to either 18 or 98 depending on the stability

So once you change 00/00 to 29 and 00/0C to 20


then it is a matter of increasing the BCLK which is done through the other two

my settings to get it to run at a 740 speeds are 37/18

They work great for me so far. Just need to make them OC my CPU everytime I start up the notebook without me having to do the OC every single time again.

Hey Reborn I overclock the exact same way you do, using setfsb 2.2 the free version. I set OF to 98 and can get upto 39/98 which gives me 1.99GHZ clock speed from my 820. Regardless of whether i increase the cpu and ram voltages I can't go any higher than 39. If i try 40 it just goes to a black screen and I have to shut it off and reboot. Any tips on getting it to go to 40/98 or higher. Even 40/18 does the same black screen. At 39/98 I get 17173 3dmark06 score. What do you get ?

Nice nice. Yeh I too can only reach 39 as my max OC. Other times I can only use 37. Not sure why but oh well. I too get the same blank black screen and have to power off. My best in 3d mark 06 last time with the CPU OC was 16.5k.

I also unparked my cores and FIFA 11 is FLYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It feels more responsive now. It might just be me LOL. ehahahaahah
Use to throttle down or something and then lagggg then I had to alt tab for it to start running full speed again. Any ideas sup with that peeps?

Hey there Reborn. Im on this version of setfsb and i have to use Asus G73 generator or else my system hangs whatever i do. And i cant change the numbers just the sliders to the right.. It worked one time in Maffia 2, and i saw 3 fps improvement in the benchmark but now it lowers the fps by 6 so... .Mayby i need to reinstall it??

One setting I use and it does seem to increase performance as when i have it set my 3dmark06 score improves. It is a hidden processor performance setting.

In the registry go to :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00\447235c7-6a8d-4cc0-8e24-9eaf70b96e2b

Set Attributes to 0 to have it show in power settings.

Then modify your power settings Processor Performance.

It is called - Processor performance core parking parked performance state

Set the Plugged In to - Deepest Performance State.

Let me know if your 3dmark06 score improves.

This Happened to me alot on A09 once i switched back to A07 I was stable all day any time i wanted at 39/98 with a voltage increase of course. And Nice Goal! BTW OLES!!!

Okay peeps I've just noticed something odd.

I'm not to sure why its doing this or whats going on.
I'm testing out FIFA 11 again. Seems to be running okay. Not as smooth as I would like however okay. Then I started playing some music in the background in windows media player like I normally do sometimes. I noticed going back into the game its lagging every few secs now. Not to sure what is going on. I closed windows media player stopped the music playing and then the game went back to normal.

Any ideas peeps. How can I fix this or is this just AMD 10.10 mobility drivers sucking on me? Or is the CPU throttling?

Try resetting all your processor performance power settings to default and then try your FIFA/music test and see if it rectifies it. I had adjusted my settings to try improve SSD speed but then started noticing other irregularities such as other things not running as smooth or fast as they use to. Reset my settings and things went back to normal.

 

Okay I just OC the CPU again using SetFSB using the 29 20 and 37 setting as per usual.
FIFA11 Started running like Usain Bolt again.

Played a couple of games and it was awesome but then on the 3rd BANG screen went black and notebook made the Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound non stop and BSOD on me oles. Had to hold the power button down to stop the hang.

Just back to pulling out the CMOS and battery again oles. Holding down Alien head for 2 mins oles.

Have you tried 29,20,98,37. I find 98 in 0F to be more stable than 18 or 96 for that matter.

Ahh looks like leaving the OC is not stable anymore.

Oles thanks for asking chiefs. I wish that was the problem then I would be able to fix it.

My CPU temps are 60 somefing and hit a max of 70 on all 4 cores. Both GPUs hit 60 odd as well. All nice temps due to new thermal paste and new pads.

Those are excellent temps. Thats the next thing I have to do to mine, is the CPU/GPU's repaste/pads. Just waiting to get a 920 or 940xm and then just do everything at once when i open it up for the cpu.

Where is the best place to get thermal pads from coz no one here in AUS sells them? And what thicknesses should i use?

I was going to use Artic Silver 5 for the CPU. What did you use for your cpu and gpu's?

 

Hey chiefs yeh I know what you mean about the pads down under ey. No where to be found.
I had to order mine online from the US. DR and others use this place called frozen CPU. Its a great place to buy from.

For the CPU and GPU dies I used Tuniq TX-4 thermal paste. Shin Etsu also works well. I have also tried AS5 on this notebook and formula 5 and a few other paste brands lol. I've been mucking around and doing some testing lol. So far the winners are Shin Etsu and Tuniq TX-4. I was going to give MX-4 a try next but am too lazy now and doubt I can really get my temps any lower. + I would have to pay for shipping again. Which as you know is not that cheap for us here down under.

In going from the 820 to 920 I noticed a pretty big performance increase in F1 2010. I was able to run at max setting s with no issues, and if you have seen that game at max settings it is a world I want to live in

With the 820 i was able to run good settings but to keep things smooth had to reduce many of the settings as well do the trick for the replay stutter.

Basically with the 920 its gorgeous, smooth, and I want to be a f1 driver.

I was just wondering if you had ever tried or used the stock 5% OC CPU setting that is available in the system bios for XM CPU owners?

I want to find out if those who run their systems with the 5% OC in the system bios are fully stable 24/7. That is my future plan if and when I get an XM CPU.

When I first got it i tried the 5% OC, had no issues and it was set like that for the first few days as I forgot to take it off. I am on bios a09 but overall the stock 920 settings have been more then adequate noticing the performance jump from the 820 which I wasn't sure I would see. I guess since I was use to the 820 I don't need the extra 5% you will feel the same way when you get yours, you wont need to OC it as it is more then what you need stock!

Thanks for the info. The only reason I was thinking and am still thinking that I will need to use the 5% OC is because FIFA11 is quite the odd game. It seems to only like highly clocks CPUs. So I'm guessing its definitely not a multi threaded game. It runs much better off say a single or dual highly clocked CPU. I have noticed that it runs like Usain Bolt whenever I have the CPU Overclocked using SetFSB however if it is running stock it runs slow and sluggish. Not really too sure what to make of it. I just want the game to run like Usain Bolt all the time.

Looking at the stock clocks for the XM CPUs they aren't that much higher either. My friend has a 840QM and FIFA 11 I have seen runs the same as mine does unless the CPU is OC with SetFSB as well. So this leads me to believe that not even the XM CPUs at stock will be enough.
However I love the option of having the system bios unlocked so I can easily just set the 5% OC and forget about OC ever again. lol.

Reborn, do you run fifa 11 with cf or just with a single card? Because its very bad or not optimized at al for cf. Same goes for Pes 11 i think. I have to adjust some settings in ccc to make it work with cf.. Also ive tried to change the numbers as you said for setfsb and its a no go for me.. Still, vantage and 3dmark06 works like a charm. But for gaming,urrrrk.... Also windows index doesnt like the OC. 1.6ghz(original) 7.1 and 1.7-1.82ghz 6.9 for the cpu.. And sometimes it even lowers the gpu index from 7.2 to some lower numbers. Even that the windows index is bull, its just fun to see higher score even here. Whats your score? Or should i start a thread for this perhaps. Just interesting to know

 

Oles chiefs. My WEI score for the CPU is 7.1.
It used to be 7.2 but must have dropped lol. Like you said though rubbish test lol. The XM CPUs only score a 7.4 in the WEI.

Yeh I've tried running in CF and disabled CF. It used to run way better with AI disabled but then after installing 10.10 it runs way better for me with CF enabled and AI set to advanced. However I can only enjoy the game when I OC the CPU with SetFSB.

So yeh so far I am using the 29 20 98 36 settings. Thanks to Sean50 chief the 98 setting has helped me stabalise the OC now it seems. I'll need to do further testing to confirm though. Looks good so far.

Its odd how you can't use the settings in SetFSB to improve your games. I wish I could show you the massive boost I get in FIFA 11 with the CPU OC. Its literally like watching Usain Bolt run the 100m's LOL. Super quick. Without the OC it runs like a snail. The actions aren't responsive or quick enough. In PES11 That game runs soo soo quick. No real problems there as compared to FIFA11. Then again PES 11 is less intensive and the FPS is capped at 62FPS. Pes absolutely does not run well with CF enabled, the FPS gets like halved. So def need to disable AI for that one.

Which PLL are you using in SetFSB. Try using the the one listed in my pic with the CLock Generator. Works great for me olesss.

Reborn try going back to A07 and incrementally going up till you reach 38/98
I have noticed that oc are more stable on A07 than on A09 dono why exactly but they are.

on A07 i can go upto 39/98 but normally i just go to 38/18 since I dont have to raise my voltages for that.
so start from stock and go

31/98
32/18
32/98
33/18
33/98 so forth so on till you reach your max on stock voltages.

Thanks for the Tip. Did you used to run your OC 24/7 chiefs. All stable? I'm planning on doing that now. Find my max setting and then Oles Just leave it 24/7 olesss. I might just use 37 thats fine for me as well. I used to be able to use 39 as well but it might be a bit to much for my needs atm lol. eheheh

Get the shareware version and donate the 500 yen to ABO then you can create batch files! YAY!!! but I use 38/18 stable oc all day everyday. lol except for now haha I am just happy if she stays on for more than 15 minutes.

Here are mine, ran a few days ago when I installed the 920XM

 

So i tried Reborns settings and flashed the bios to A07. I got these PLL byte Error before and still gets them.. But i tested Fifa 11 overclocked to 1.812 ghz and my fps dropped from 60 to 53 and below.. But i saw what you ment by fast players because i noticed that the game is much faster. I just dont know if its just speeds up or if its the way its ment to be played? By the way, i asked about your index. Heres my scores with no OC on my CPU.

 

Oh nice 7.3 on the GPU score in WEI ey oles.

Yeh I can only play FIFA 11 now with the CPU OC otherwise it feels like a slow motion replay. Soo sooooo slow. My FPS is around 70 - 100 as well for the most part in game. I'm running crossfire. Its weird because mine seems to run better with crossfire enabled. When I check the load of the game on both GPUs they are maxing out at 90% on each card. So not full but close enough to gain the performance that I need it seems for now.

Man strange how the SetFSB settings don't work the same for you chiefs. Thats very odd how you get pll errors and stuff. Can you get the other pll clock generator working? The same one I'm using? The ICT......number one?

Yeh playing FIFA 11 when the CPU is OC somehow makes it feel more faster and responsive. I'm not to sure why that is. Because other higher stock clock CPUs playing it not OC feel slow and sluggish. I love playing it at Usain Bolt speeds. It gives me the edge lol. I can bang in 7, 8, 9 and 10 goals some games LOL ehahaha olessss. All because the game is more smoother and responsive. I LIKE IT!!!
I reckon its supposed to play much smoother. Something like when we play with the CPUs OC. Thats how it feels all the time on Nvidia GPUs I have seen. + Other CPUs that were clocked at 3.0Ghz and above.

Oh yeh how did you manage 7.3 for your GPUs. Were they stock clocked or OC?
