I know there have been some unpublished fixes/tweaks that offer massive performance boosts. They were (previously) unpublished because they were to be released as part of SP1, but you could download/install if you knew where to look.

I'll install right now, thanks for the heads up.

I'll install it but only with a restore point created pre-install just in case anything glitches out on me :)

So is it safe to install sp1 with R2's or not?

Don't know on R2's, I installed last night on my R3 and everything is good. Cpu temps are the same and the computer is a bit snappier in the OS.

Same as DaneGRClose. No issues, unless more responsive OS counts as an issue :p
(@DaneGRClose, I got my CPU to throttle as you described in another thread) <--this has nothing to do with SP1, I'm just saving the effort of sending a PM

I wonder if the R3 will ship in April will come with Windows 7 SP1. How long does it usually take Dell to have the updated software?

Don't know about the R3 but I haven't had any issues on my R2 yet and I've been running it since it came out.

Installed it last night on my R3. No problems and no noticeable changes. CPU temps remain the same and performance is no different than it was before, at least to my subjective eye.

I wasn't expecting much at all since it's said to be just a rollup of patches. It was only supposed to provide new features and improvements when used on Server 2008 R2.

I know I have an R2 but thought I would add that SP1 installed just fine on my system. I cant see there being a huge difference between installing on R2 or R3. Why would there be?

There is talk/rumours that it doesnt install properly for people that have used DriverSweeper to clean Ati Drivers but I dont think that its 100% accurate. I have used DS myself recently to clean out 11.1 before 11.2 and have had no issues after doing so. Downloaded and installed the SP1 update fine without issue or problems.

I would recommend creating a restore point before doing so just incase. Do not delete the SP back up files after as if you want to uninstall/go back, you wont be able to.

I just installed it on mine. It seems to use more memory and it runs a little hotter. Also it doesnt seem snappier but it shuts down faster.

Edit: Before my temps would idle in the mid to high 40s but now it idles low 50s to low 60s.

Thats odd. I did read that some were experiencing temp increases. I checked mine with Hwinfo32 at idle and no difference for me. Doesnt seem to be anyway.

My gpu's idle at 35c/30c...the cpu cores idle between 35c to 40c between cores.....ram idles at 18c....

I will keep an eye on it mind....

FWIW, I just installed it via the normal process of installing a windows update. Just made sure it was the only thing going on at the time. Took about 30mins to complete with a automatic restart at the 30% stage of configuring my computer with the new files...it then restarted and resumed the configuration to login. No issues.

seemed like my fan was on all work day yesterday, but I was doing some pretty heavy modeling & extremely fast CADing (today is deadline day). I'll pay more attention since some are mentioning higher temps.

I have a R2 and I installed SP1. The only issue I have is my boot up went from 30 seconds before SP1 to over a minute now. Once the computer is booted up its fine and maybe a little faster on opening some programs, and shutdown is alot quicker. Anyone else noticing slower bootups? I defragged and I made sure I had no extra programs loaded during startup, but not sure what happened.

Yes, but only when hardwired at work (+10 seconds). I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it's because mapped network drives are loading/connecting. Under normal circumstances, my boot time decreased by almost a second - to 11.8 seconds

I just installed SP1 on my R1, after reading your post and can confirm that it does indeed run warmer. My min-max was 38-49, now it is 43-62.

I did notice that the longer I left it on, the temps dropped...
