Anyone with the M17x R3(orig) replaced their board yet? I.e. has anyone who decided to keep their original shipped system (or am I the only schmuck) been contacted or have you contacted Dell to discuss a board replacement? If yer not seeing the issue and since they promised to honor a replacement via your service agreement at a later date if you actually had an issue is it worth it to upgrade to the new board?
Thanks

same situation as you. have not been contacted by Dell yet. have not called them either

I never got contacted about it but contacted them yesterday, they at first wanted me to depot the system but I refused telling them that they had to honor the NBD on-site warranty. Long story short I told them they could either give me a new system -or- replace the mother board and replace my GPU since none of the official drivers will work without throwing bsod's(Nvidia or Dell). The manager then offered me a new mobo+6970 or a new system, guess which one I took?
-
UHHH. A new mobo + 6970m?

Yes a new mobo and a 6970m to replace my 460m as I've been having a lot of DirectX and driver issues on supported drivers. As far as costs I consider the cost to be what I paid for my warranty, nothing out of pocket though.
-
Yey, What do I win? LOL. So, you might be the first 6970m user with the 120hz screen!

That is the case, already approved by a tech manager. Now we just have to wait for the part number to be activated, there's a part and a number it's just not active to be able to order as a single part yet
-
do you mind pm'ing the contact info of the manager who approved the exchange? I have been waiting and waiting and nothing from Dell. I think it is time for me to call them up
-
I kept mine, and asked Dell if they would contact me when the boards were available. They said I would be, but I have not heard anything yet.

Guess I stick it out till it actually throws errors.

Well the part number has apparantly been activated, it shipped out today so my 6970m will be here tomorrow and in my rig hopefully tomorrow as well. I'll let you guys know how it goes and what the 6970m+120hz experience is like

Dane, I'm so jealous right now.
You've silver-tongued your way to a jackpot of savings.
If anyone reading this needs a marketer or sales pro, you should probably drop Dane a pm - he's clearly got skills!
Looking forward to your findings,

So the parts got here, but the gpu was a refurbished
part and was bad. The mobo is fine but the card caused it to just beep and it wouldn't even post. I called and spoke to two different engineers who ensured me that the 120hz and 6970 would work together even though they don't offer it yet. Needless to say they're shipping out brand new parts that will be here on monday, hopefully this isn't a bios restriction
I'll keep you guys updated next week.

I called Dell a week ago (last saturday) about the board replacement. The tech I spoke to ask me numerous times if I had problems with my laptop, he kept asking why I wanted my motherboard replaced. I kept telling him there was a recall due to the sandy bridge chip and Dell is supposed to replace the boards on customers who decided to keep the R3 with the defect. He kept putting me on hold, would come back after a few minutes then ask me again why I needed my board replaced. This kept going for about 30 minutes. Once he confirm what I was trying to explain to him for over 30 minutes, he told me they didn't have any new boards, I was asked to call back in about 2 weeks.

Ok update, just got called by Dell to schedule my MOBO replacement. Any advice from anyone here? Should I let them do it? I am doing a full backup using Alien Respawn, I have the full version. I'm ASSuming they will replace the mobo then update the bios and or the video drivers? I have already upgraded the video drivers to the latest that are on the dell website but I have been holding off on the bios and staying with the orig BIOS, due to all the issues I've heard.
Thanks for any responses. -
My MOBO is getting replaced for my R3 as soon as I get a call from the tech for a scheduled appt. I hope it goes smoothly. Mine didnt even work stright out of the box from the factory. It was pretty ridiculous! They say they test them before they leave so I'm guessing someone drop checked it while it was being shipped, but I guess I will never know. -
Update 2: Tech is coming to replace the board tonight. Backups made, ready to go, fingers crossed.
On a side note, I can't tell if it makes me feel better or more concerned that the tech who called has a worse southern drawl than mine, and mine Ive been told is pretty bad. -
I had my MOBO replaced, along with the gpu, gpu fan and heatsink. Did nothing for me. My m17x r3 was messed up from the factory so its a bigger issue. good luck with urs.

I refuse that a tech need to come to replace it xD

UPDATE: Ok new board is in. He had a doozy of a time with the keyboard, had to resaet it like 4 times. And that right side of the command center is pried up more now that ever, but the new mobo is in.
