Just wondering if anyone's GPU has died from constant overclocking or know anyone's who has.
Mine hasn't, I only OC for Witcher 2 and temps stay around 75 degrees celcious, but wondering if constant OC on games have caused anyone's GPU to die.

Overclocking would only damage the GPU if it's overheating. Provided you're under 90C it should be perfectly fine and if you're under 80C that's perfect.

Never had an issue as stated above if temps are good and there are no artifacts or texture flashing you will be fine.

Ok cool, because I'm thinking I'm going to OC more for other games. Thanks.

ive had two desktop cards fail due (presumably) due to overclocking. they start artifacting all over the place then eventually just die.

It also depends on the applications you run. I got really high temp playing Metro 2033 with OC. It was about 85C(while Crysis 2 was only 79 C with the same OC). Quite dangerous. So I would suggest not leaving constant OC on.

been trying to kill it but have not been successful yet. hehehe

Mine is set to be oc all the time when windows boots up. But the 460 is such a cool running card it won't go past 65 in furmark.

What is a good laptop cooler for the m17x R3? I think I need one to avoid damaging my GPU with these OC's.....

yup agree, best to repaste and maybe prop the back end off the table with a book or something.

Anyone use this Cooler before or know someone who has? -
i'm using it right now, doesn't really help much with cooling though. using it more as a docking station. using the usb 2.0 version since i don't own any usb 3.0 devices. i would only recommend it if you are using and external keyboard and mouse, since the added extra height make it uncomfortable to type on.

I have a freaking expensive Zalman cooler. It doesnt really help under heavy load at all. lol

as a cooler no its not worth it. as a docking station its pretty good and matches well with the r3. i just edited my original post with some added info.

My Zalman NC2000 worked great on my G60Jx and G73JH but sucks on the M17x R3 because the bottom vents of the M17x are located in a way that you have to keep the R3 hanging off the front edge of the NC2000 so that the cooling pad vents are under the R3 fan-vents.
I think the Cryo LX would work best on the M17x R3 judging by the design of both. -
Overclocking is generally safe if your temps are under 90*C and your not playing with voltages. Voltage will kill a card quicker. I don't think the M17x R2 will allow you to kill a card, even if the voltage is upped from 1.05v to 1.15v which is as high as the bios will recognize. I had mine OCed to 915/1200 1.15v and did a dual simultanious run on furmark ( 2 apps open/ running) with two monitors once that didn't end so well. Killed one of my GPUs, but again, extreme benching can be dangerous. OCing for gaming and at stock voltage should be plenty fine as long as your cooling system isn't clogged with dust causing temps to rise
Anyone's GPU die from OVERCLOCKING??
