I mean If you order a r2 system with only 1 card, there is always possibility to add another?

If I can be more clear, there is only one type of r2 motherboard? That was my question

There is only one type of motherboard for an m7x r2. It has 2 slots for video card's. So if you order an m17x with one video card, you can add a second later.

It's better to order 2 at once. Much cheaper and less labor that way.

Go to dell.com and download their m17x r2 service manual. Everything you need to know should be there.

Keep in mind that you're going to have to pay a pretty penny to get all the extra parts in order to run CF -- a secondary 5870, fan, and 240w adapter. If you order your m17x with a single card, then you will get a 150w adapter instead of a 240w and no second fan.

    I don't know about that.
$375(should be similar in Can) includes: a secondary 5870($335 + tx from Dell, $390 on ebay and NO CF cable) + fan($54 + tx from Dell, $60 on ebay) + 240w adapter($80-100). You do the math.

Plus you'll need the heatsink with the extra card which dell can provide.

but its a FUTURE upgrade, by the time I might think about buying it, the video card is going to be cheaper then that.

A single 5870 will be fine for now

I wish it was that easy. :D One of my m17x's had gfx cards replaced 3 times already(last one was courtesy of Dell even though I didn't need :))
You will not get any warranty even if you manage to find a secondary 5870 on ebay. If your card dies in a month, you're screwed. Think hard. It's your money. Just my 2c. ;)

Yeah, I wouldn't count on a proprietary video card being that much cheaper later on. I just checked eBay for m17x r1 280ms and they were running over $400 a pop, and these are the video card from yesteryear's model...

Edit: Forgot to mention that power brick will run you over $100 by itself too.

You may want to skimp out on the memory, hard drive, CPU, etc, and get the CrossFire Video cards. It much easy and cheaper to replace those parts than the video card.
