Are you happy you got the M17x 3D instead of the M18x ??

I have been looking for what seems weeks trying to decide if the
M18x is worth the extra $$ over the deals that are out on the M17x 3D.

I am really thinking that a near max config M17x 3D is the way for me to go. @ $3400 minus the $300 off sale and I have a Dell friend that was kind enough to drop a Dell EPP discount on me for an extra 17% off.

    Here is my config I am thinking about;
    PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ i7 2760QM 2.4GHz (3.5GHz w/Turbo Boost, 6MB Cache)
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit
    MEMORY 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz (2DIMMS)
    VIDEO CARD 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 580M
HARD DRIVE 1TB Raid 0 (2x 500GB Hybrid Solid State Drives)
    LCD PANEL 17.3-inch WideFHD 1920x1080 120Hz WLED w/ NVIDIA 3D Vision Bundle
    WIRELESS CARD Killer™ Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO for Gaming & Video
WIRELESSHD Internal WirelessHD Technology - FullHD Video Transmitter
INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader

Dell UltraSharp U3011 and AY511 Soundbar

I went with Raid 0 Hybrids just to make sure I got the Second HD Imposer and tray.
I plan on upgrading to Raid 0 SSD and add Hyper X memory later.

My plan is for this to replace my Current SLI Gaming rig (I rarely use) and the M15x. I generally sit on the couch and game on my M15x.

Just trying to get a last minute feel for this system. My M15x has been a rock for near 2 years only pitfall is my ability to find a good price on a 460m (sorry nvidia biget) to upgrade my M15x.

A word of advice, if you are buying new and not refurbished, you will get the second caddy even if you choose only one HDD, so just get one HDD and buy yourself an aftermarket SSD.
Also why are you getting the extra monitor and soundbar? Do you need it?

i got my r3 2 weeks ago and it came with the 2nd hdd shizzle.

when u get your laptop tho check to see if they actualy put 2 hybrid drives in as dell screwed me with a normal 500gb hdd it was a 7200 rpm one atleast -.-

i mailed them and rang them and nobody has a fkn clue what a hybrid drive is there, still hvnt got it sorted.

i would just get a cheap hdd as hybrid drives are like half the price aftermarket.

    also soundbar .. meh :p

my opinion on 3d on a laptop, well 3d in general is fairly gimmicky and it takes a fair bit of hardware to run it properly.

the 580m will struggle with the newer games to run 3d at high settings.

u can always get a 3d tv for movies n stuff and use the hdmi 1.4 out of the laptop to watch 3d movies on the tv.

the m18x will be able to output 3d trough hdmi aswell afaik.

so if u want top performance the m18x will be the one, the r3 runs everything nicely tho just dont expect insane performance out of 3d with the single 580m

in the end the r3 is an awesome machine, just dont let dell screw u :p

hehe the 30" needed not so much.
I have a triple 24" using the SLI Rig in surround Mode setup on my Desk. I was looking at replacing that with the single 30. I may still get my big can off the couch and sit at my desk when I work from home. The 30 will also double as a TV uisng a cable box (Why I got the soundbar) when not being used as a monitor.

And I had read about the caddy and imposer were there for the second drive I just wanted to make sure.. I read a few did not get thiers.

The ones who didn't get their either had theirs put in upside down so it looked empty or got a refurbished, sometimes those didn't come with one. Other wise, I stand by getting a large HDD then putting in your own SSD.
