Hi all if anyone has this machine and arma 2 could you please get some vids or benchmarks up as this is the system I'm going to buy next week and arma 2 is the main game i play and a very demanding game it is so would love to see how this system performs thx.

Didn't arma 2 come out 3-4 years ago?

I'm pretty sure....
-
-
it runs far worse than crysis
-
-
sorry havent got it installed atm, its on my steam so maybe ill give it a shot
-
Thx if you could
-
i be gettin my system on monday if i have to believe ups
but my desktop with a radeon 5770 vapor x runs arma 2 fine @ 1080p so this laptop should run it no sweat -
depends what settings of course..
-
Give it up guys, this game only for desktop.....
Sigh, I really want to play they're so called Multiplayers Real Combat Simulation things.... even in low setting, this game is no playable.....
just wait for BF3 I guess..... -
max settings although i turn off shadows a fair bit.
used to run eyefinity triple screen with 2 vapor x on the same settings, u wont have any issues with this laptop.
but i'll run the game for ya on the laptop when its delivered on monday n post some fps results. -
max everything?? distance etc, everything max?
-
-
well im planning to do a bunch of test with various games anyways i mean whats more fun then to test out a new toy ^^
havnt played the game in ages tho but loved it when i did, used to run triple screen eyefinity, trackir 5 and flyin with a saitek x52 pro. Loved flying on it ehe -
-
i believe the 6990 is on par with a desktop 6870 wich doesnt have any issues running arma II so i dont see why the laptop wouldnt be able to run it.
besides these arnt normal laptops their gaming monsters, their a fair bit faster then the average gaming pc lol -
-
-
Now now, nothing wrong with the Renesis engine.
-
yup, let's try it again in my R3..... -
-
gpu 715mhz vs 900mhz
memory 900mhz vs 1050mhz
their fairly close and a small overclock will make them more or less on par
it just arrived, so much for the end of the day delivery but hey not complaining
gonna set it up and start running some games on it
whoop whoop -
I play Arma 2 on my m17 GTS 280m. It runs fine.
I also make custom missions with a lot of activity (we're talking up to 15 helis doing an airborne assault) and it playable. The 6990m should gobble it up. -
Arma 2 first I hope -
need to transfer my steam over first
only 120odd gb -
ugh its saying bad serial given in installation -.- lol
-
-
havin some driver issues however i think i fixed that so i'll run a test in a mo to give ya some fps results. wont be able to fraps just yet untill i have applications to actualy render it n stuff
only got one hdd in there so frapsing will dent the fps anyways
got to dl arma II again in order for it to work so once thats done i'll run some numbers.
so far black ops @ max settings runs at 80-90 fps -
just done a quick test
1920x1080 same for 3d resolution
all settings to high including anisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing maxed out aswell
fps stays between 45-60 this was with just some infantry n stuff at an airfield.
and some grenade explosions, this with the standard drivers and no overclock on the card yet.
prolly get a bit more decent fps if u drop the anisotropic and aliasing down a tad.
cant find ati overdrive on the ccc anymore, this a bug or because its a mobile card its not standard there i dunno lol .
i'll be doing some more proper test along the night and tomorrow, also have to build in the ssd at some stage n reinstall the laptop.
removed the dell crap as its useless
once i got the ssd in n stuff i'll try some frapsing aswell. but there is some basic numbers for ya. with a bit of overclocking u can run arma II fairly maxed out. had a look at arma 3 and its fairly close to this one just a fair bit more details on the models and improved physics. so should run no problem on this aswell although their adding proper physics support putting the 580m in favor. -
Sounds good what are the system specs, try some testing in the main town on the sea front when you get chance
-
i7 2720 @ 2.20ghz
8gb ddr III 1333 ram
radeon 6990 2gb ddr5
basicly its all on stock speeds and drivers atm.
with the radeon still being a fairly new card i reckon performance will improve with new drivers.
i'll have a go at some stage again for ya. -
What's your impressions so far was it worth buying
-
tbh this thing is a best but yeh alienware is and will be expensive but the laptop overall is awesome.
apart from the dell crap that came on it its good
build wise its the best gaming laptop ive tried, although havent had the luxery to try an r2 yet.
its dead quiet, fans spun up for a wee bit but i dont have it elevated or on a cooler. arma II does heat it up ;p
packaging was pretty well sorted, the laptop itself is in a fleece ish lil bag in the box with a fair bit of foam to protect it from damage.
the lights are quite nice well red is actualy red
performance wise its a beast, for a single card laptop this thing is just a monster owning up any game u trow at it @ 1080p, the screen is epic aswell better as most other laptops. the speakers are a bit meh but then again my last laptop was a hp hdx dragon 20" with 4.1 surround build in
Lil dander i had in arma II i was amazed at the performance and the quality, it all ran soo smooth. Im not liking the keyboard that much for actual gaming tho so i be gettin a logitech g13 to cover that but maybe if i put it on a cooling stand the elevation might actualy improve that.
so in overal its a deffo worth buy esp if u wanna bring arma II with u as this deffo is a machine for it. -
Great stuff can't wait to get mine gunna order it on Friday, now get some vids up on YouTube have you tried bfbc2 yet.
-
havnt played bfbc2 in ages lol, after the competive scene died for it we moved back to either cod4 or brink. waiting for bf3 wich the beta key should be in my mailbox very soon
bfbc2 u be able to run maxed out no sweat. my radeon 5770 vapor x and i5 quad in the desktop runs it flat out. with the m17x and 6990 being more powerfull as the desktop it should run faster.
i just found out that instead of the momentus xt 500gb harddrive i ordered they gave me a cheap toshiba 500gb harddrive ..
i just reinstalled the laptop onto a ssd ( where i found out that the hdd the laptop came with wasnt the one i ordered -.- ) but i'll get bfbc2 and stuff installed n drop a fps report and hopefully some fraps to go with it -
Any updates mate have you tried the arma 2 benchmark from the missions
-
sorry m8 havnt had alot of time today
i'll run some tomorrow. got some biz to take care off tonight.
im off from work fairly early tomorrow and i'll sort it out sorry m8 -
No probs mate I've got to much time on my hands haha, just waiting around for mine now i think I've watched every unboxing video on YouTube.
-
I'm looking at getting the 580 with the 3D screen now not sure what to do
-
i've tested
witcher 2 with high res it gives me around 24~30 -
What's your specs mate those fps in my eyes are not even playable
-
doesn't sure if you're push all the setting into max, mine still running on stock game setting....
it's the hard game, even when u use a gamepad..... -
580m will perform better for arma 3 most likely due to physx support.
dont forget that 3d will realy power out of your card, also it might be worth to check nvidia 3d before u spend your money on it. as some ppl have got issues with it such as headache or some the effect doesnt even work on them.
gonna run a bunch of test on a fair amount of games in a mo ( ive got a nice collection ;p ) and post some results. havnt installed any software yet to actualy render anything so the actual fraps n stuff will have to wait till i get my 1.5tb drive hooked into an esata box wich should arrive tomorrow. as it holds all my design resources n software
if u realy want 3d go for it but try it out before u actualy get it as i was tempted by it but got bored with it fairly fast but i mostly only play competive esports so i rather have high fps then the 3d stuff anyways as it heavely impacts your fps. -
Yeah don't no what to do yet, can't wait for those benchmarks though
-
on chernarus on normal to high settings i was able to maintain 50 fps stable with lil dips to 45 atm, on the less busy parts it be about 80 odd fps.
i have the stock dell latest drivers installed wich arnt the 11.8 i believe wich might yield some fps.
so basicly u wont be able to run at top settings in large fights, but u be able to play on high settings.
im gonna try out the latest drivers and see if it improves, the card stayed fairly cool 60-65 odd c during the lil test i done.
also 1 rifleman against a ton load of enemy soldiers and a fair load of tanks = get killed alot
so will the alienware m17x r3 run arma II decently ? yeh will it run it completely maxed in masive combat zones ? your top fps will most likely be 20-30 unless a tad of overclocking with better drivers will increase that.
gonna install the latest ati drivers and see if that improves things. -
Was hoping it was gunna run all on very high settings I don't no if it's worth spending 1500+ on a laptop thats not gunna run my favourite game plus when arma 3 comes out your probably looking at low to normal can you try the in game benchmarks with it set to all high with shadows on normal and post processing disabled and native resolution thx.
-
just ran the benchmark 01 scenario a few times and it gives a avg fps of 56 on high
problem with arma II is that the engine isnt realy that optimised and the amount of stuff a gfx card has to process is a fair bit.
6990m is a tad slower as the 6870 although with a small tweak on the clocks will make it run on the same ish speeds.
maybe the 580m will run a few fps higher if its better optimised for the nvidia cards.
if u want a laptop to run this game flat out ur gonna have to look at the m18x with dual 6990. wich is a fair bit expensive, but u are trying to run one of the most demanding games flat out on a mobile device.
it will run decently on high settings on a m17x r3 although with the 6990m being fairly newish newer drivers will most likely increase its performance a fair bit.
arma 3 is going to be better optimised then arma 2 however their adding higher detailed textures into the game.
ur prolly going to be able to play arma 3 on around the same settings as arma 2 on the m17x r3
the gfx card stays under 70 ish c so there is room for overclocking and ofc a cooling pad will increase that a wee bit more.
there are other 17" laptops custom build with dual gfx for around the same price is the m17x r3 but less nice looking and maybe not the same build quality.
dual 6990m are good value and excelent performance, the 580 sli are a fair bit more expensive with not a masive increase in performance to justify the cost. -
With the settings I suggested above on my 27" iMac with it's 4850gfx card i got an average of 27 so so I will be happy with 50. Just debating now weather to order the m17x on Friday or just order a load of parts and build a monster desktop for £1400
-
Did you turn off the postprocessing and lower the shadows
