    I believe there was a post...somewhere...that stated even though you are set to RAID in the BIOS, if you're not running a RAID array the BIOS will default to AHCI.

    thanks for replying i just took the plunge and done the regedit part then rebooted and dived into my bios and selected achi, my lappy bsod everytime i tried to restart, so i went back into the bios opted for the raid option and now it's booting again.

    Oooh. Ouch. IF the BIOS does default from RAID to AHCI regardless of what it is set to, just don't worry about it...unless you have any performance drop.

    Having the Sata operation in Raid gives the option to build one but doesn't necessarily mean you need to have a RAID. You can upgrade to a SSD and add another drive for storage and still keep the SATA operation in RAID with no issues.
