I'd be curious to know what these are about. Changelog as far as I know doesn't give any particular hotfixes other than game wise. I'm hoping someone has a better idea on this?

EDIT: Just some minor XP/Vista/7 hotfixes as well. As far as I know, no actualy fix to BC2 with the screen black screen ocasionally popping up or force closing.

So test em out guys, let the majority know if its worth the upgrade.

Reading over the guru3d forum it seems the bad company 2 random crash to desktop is still there. ATi sigh. That X7200 brick with nvidia cards is looking more and more appealing.

Stupid question, but I'm pretty new to ATI drivers.

So we have to download the ATI MOBILITY win7 64 bit correct?

    Thanks.

Do these drivers have the power issues? Sleep / unplugging? Also - are't the dell approved 10.8's coming out this week? Wouldn't it be better to wait for those?

Just installed the driver. BFBC2 seem to run pretty well. Used to crash every 10 mins or so with 10.7 but didn't crash for 30 mins. Going to try SC2 soon once B.NET goes up. Oh and sleeping issue is still here sadly. :(

It'll take me like another 20 minutes, until it's downloaded, its like 120MB and loads very slowly, like 200KB/s.

Well you find it by browsing Dells FTP, and check the latest time stamps and files according to it. Also previous beta driver was P01.

And sure, who doesn't love them :D

these drivers rock my world. not only are all my games running flawlessly... but the sleep issue i've been having after closing the lid and then trying to get the pc to wake back up but only getting a blank screen is GONE.

    heeeellz yeah.

if i find any issues with these drivers, i'll let you guys know. but be aware that the dell beta drivers that are on support.dell.com still has the sleep/wake issue when using the lid close, so... as far as I'm concerned, 10.8 drivers from www.amd.com are top-notch.

@neosis - Are you saying that the 10.8 Dell Beta driver still has the sleep/wake issue and the AMD 10.8 driver from AMD's site does not? Just needed a little clarification. Thx

**Edit**- Sorry BatBoy I just migrated to the new Driver thread.

i had the same issue as neosis with my m17 4850 and 10.7 from amd

the 10.8 from amd solved the issue now when resuming the screen always come back normaly so this fix should work for the 4870 in the m17x as the 4850 and 4870 from alienware are the same board with diferent MXM connector

the only issue i had is that on first reboot after installing the drivers (i booted on batterie) the screen remained black (bios not even showing) this was fixed by booting on sector and never hapened again even when booting on batterie

I am in no hurry to install these, as ever since 10.3 none of my Open GL games play any longer. I have found a work around, by continuing to use the 10.3 OGL DLL, but still, come on ATI, Nvidia drivers do not have this issue. My M11x with the latest drivers works fine with my older OGL games, and newer games as well.

I have mentioned this to DR650SE, but unless ATI does something to turn around the install issues, as well as issues like this with OGL, this will be the last system I purchase with ATI cards in it. I have had several with Nvidia cards, and never had these kinds of issues with installs, or running games, including on my M11x.

the early 10. XXX install isue where fixed around 10.5 and 10.5 also have a OGL compliant confirmation i think 10.8 also are they have something abou OGL in the release note

and if you are talking about the 5870 driver install issue then this is because dell decided to ake custom modification to the boards and bios not because ati don't suport thier boards

These drivers still suck.. It installed only catalyst but not video or hdmi.. Tested 10.8 directly from ati and those worked like 10.7. 12980points overall and 13990 gpu in vantage but screen goes black and no gain in performance in games for me. And one thing is funny, aint there anybody else that noticed that antilaising doesnt work in controlpanel. Doesnt matter what settings, edges are still bad.. And this goes for some games also.. Or is this just my setup???

Hmm, looks like they need more testing. I think I'm going to stick to the 10.8 Betas. Havn't had any problems with them so far. And like BA0701 stated, a lot of these driver installs get crazy with work arounds, issues, ect. At this point my regular use SSD and Benchmarking SSD are on 10.8 Betas, and I'm not really looking to uninstalling them. I think i'm going to hold tight foe a while. Tommorrow I'll be doing some gaming though. I'll see how that goes before I make any decisions to commit to reinstalling new drivers.

this might have been caused by residual previous driver files/settings.

here's my best new driver technique:

    1. Control Panel > Uninstall “ATI Catalyst Install Manager”
    2. Choose “Uninstall Manager” and then choose “Custom.”
    3. Uninstall everything on the list. If ATI Display Driver is on the list, go to step 7. If it was not, and all you see is “HDMI Driver” “Catalyst Control Center,” go to step 4.
    4. After uninstall of everything possible completes, do not reboot your computer.
    5. Right click my Computer > Manage > Device Manager
    6. Right click all devices under the “Display Adapters” section and choose “Uninstall” Check the box to “delete driver software” if given the option. After all devices are removed from the display adapters section, go to step 7.
    7. Reboot your computer
    8. After logging back in. Run CCleaner. Clean all files over and over again until 0KB is removed. Clean the registry over and over again until no issues are found.
    9. Run DriverSweeper. Analyze for ATI software. Click clean. It will eventually ask you if you want to reboot, say yes.
    10. Upon logging back in, run setup.exe in your newest driver folder.

Ccleaner: CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download
DriverSweeper: download from Guru3D.com (click agree to start download)

    a few things to note:

on 4870s, you should continually get aero glass no matter what you do. this is because generic 4870 drivers are built into windows 7. on 5870's, this is not the case, so you should see windows 7 basic upon your final reboot. this is normal.

10.8 is the first set of drivers from amd that installed without having to use the "workaroundinstall=true" ahem, workaround. this could be a coincidence and was actually fixed with bios a07, but it might be that amd has now started making their drivers compatible with the m17x again. I noticed that amd standard drivers no longer worked by default with the m17x after bios a02.

I downloaded the 10.8 but for some reason had nothing but problems. I removed them and installed the new dell 8.763 and they're holy hell amazing. Smooth install, great ingame performance. Might want to head over to the other thread and take a look @ the feedback for yourself.

Did you remind yourself to also install app profiles along the official 10.8? on the other side it's said that it is quite possible that with the dell drivers you don't actually need profiles, and might give even worse performance when installed.

It's probably it's not packaged along the installer... you might want to check the extract folder and see under packages/drivers, if there is a WDM folder, if not, and there is only the display folder, there is no HDMI driver for that release packed within and only the actual display driver.

I installed the app profiles on 8.673. I couldn't even get the 10.8 official properly installed. It wouldn't take for some reason.

Brian said his engineering team dictated that the application profiles were potentially hazardous to the new driver's performance. No offense to the engineering team, but for the most part, they've been pretty wrong. They've been "unable to recreate" various issues that almost every single person in the community has. I installed the app profiles for 10.7 and my ingame performance with app profiles and 8.763 is near identical. The app profiles actually made quite a difference in COD MW2, though I couldn't tell much of a difference with other titles. I'd love to determine how to see the different settings the software applies to each application via the profiles. No one has been able to instruct me on how to do that, though.

In conclusion, 8.763 coupled with the application profiles has given me optimal performance. Oh, and I love kittens.

I actually have 4870's in CF, and not 5870s. But the installation of the ATI drivers, with all of the work arounds, change false to true, etc, then you don't get all of the software installed, such as the control center, or the HDMI drivers, etc... These ATI drivers never work as they should. A nice straight forward install like the Dell approved drivers would be appreciated, and even the last ones I got from Dell, OGL did not work for any of my older games. I have not had any of my older games work past 10.3, without having to mod the install directory by replacing the new OGL DLL with the one from the 10.3 package. This has become a monthly exercise, right in these very forums, when ATI releases this months driver package. Everyone comes in here, to see what has been broken, or if they even install fully or correctly without any mods needed.

Believe me, I am happy with the performance of my system, but like everyone else, there are some issues with some games, that could be fixed with a proper driver. I only wish that driver would be released by ATI, without my having to perform a song and dance to get them installed, and to hope that by fixing one thing, they didn't break something else that was functioning previously.

I was able to install the official 10.8 ATI drivers, which surprised me (usually I have to manually update the drivers). So I had high hopes.

Benchmarks are slightly better than 10.7 but WoW is unplayable. I have to turn off hardware mouse to be able to function at all, but even with that there is a constant hitching.

Back to 10.7 but will try the Dell-supplied 10.8 beta shortly.

if you can install your driver even with that generic driver there you are lucky with the 4850 the generic driver keep overriding the oem from amd if you don't erase it from hdd and defend window to get it

on my system it was not i was on a fresh install i just changed hdd's when and the resume issue was there befor and after the fresh install

    10.8 fixed it

i avoid using ccleaner since the issue around 10.3 apeared where ccleaner would delete a registry entry making it impossible to reinstall any ati driver on the system

and since then just using ati's on uninstalling utility never failed me the only bugs i encounter are thoes inside of the driver it self

these driver did not support the boards and needed the workaround because thet where modified from the reference desing by dell and thus do not comply to what the driver is suposed to handle and because they have a diferent device id dell requested thier device id to be removed from the list of device suported instead of having the installs break something and brick your system so it's not ATI's faul but dell's one for not using the reference desing

I have never had an issue with the device ID of my 4870s. I do, however, understand that is a huge issue for the folks using the 5870s, but I have not had to deal with that with my cards.

I do, however, fail to see how it is Dell's fault that these drivers from ATI do not install everything they are supposed to, like CCC, HDMI drivers, etc.. without some sort of work around 99% of the time. I have installed several different ATI drivers since I received my laptop in April, and not one install went through without some sort of issue. Every month, there are several options given to people trying to install the latest from ATI, from going through device manager, to setting the workaround to True, uninstalling, going to safe mode, running driver cleaner/ccleaner. The list of work arounds is endless, but not one of them is a straightforward install, like just about every other driver I have installed. I also fail to see how Dell can be faulted for the broken OGL drivers, that has absolutely nothing to do with anyone other than ATI. Saddest part of that, is ATI is well aware of the issue, since 10.4, and has done nothing to rectify the problem. Read their own forums, in regards to OGL issues, and every month it is the same thing, just like in these forums, where people hope that next month's will fix it.

    Assuming you aren't referring to throttling, I have a stuttering issue in BC2 in every driver higher than 10.5.;
