    M17X R4. Win 7 Pro.

Has anyone figured out a solution for the “audio not being recognized” the red x on the audio icon after boot up. It happens a lot on my machine. I have tried just about everything possible. Fresh install, uninstall and reinstall drivers, updated the bios to A09 etc.. to no avail. It is getting irritating. About the only solution I have found instead of multiple restarts is after getting to the desktop, I have to put the computer to sleep for a few seconds then wake it up again. That seems to work the best, sometimes it takes a couple of wakeups. I know a few forum members have had this issue but I have not seen a solution.

I went to creative labs and downloaded their drivers for Sound Blaster Recon3D but apparently they are not compatible with the Sound Blaster Recon3Di in the M17X R4, well at least not mine. Are the drivers from the Dell website indigenous only to the cards in our laptops or the card uses other Creative Labs drivers? Wondering if anyone knows.

About the only thing I can figure out is that Windows timing is not initializing the sound card during boot up. I might not have explained myself well but I think it has something to do with timing of sorts.

Just curios if anyone figured out a solution.

    Thank You.

Which BIOS version were you on before you updated to A09? This all seems a little familiar to me...If my memory's good, I think the audio device disconnecting issue was supposed to be fixed in the A08 BIOS update, but then the problem returned in the A09 release? Someone want to chime in to confirm my suspicions?

Radji, thank you for your reply. I tried the A08 bios and it did not help. I was still having the same issue. I downloaded the Win 8 drivers for the Sound Blaster Recon3Di. I am going to flash the bios to A08 and use the Win 8 drivers. Maybe that will work. Stranger things have happened. I will keep you updated.

Will do. Thank you Luis. It is good to know that Alienware monitors this forum and offer their help which at this point is welcome by me.

LOL.. Thank you Radji. Since my brilliant idea of using A08 bios and Win 8 drivers did not work, I am out of ideas too.
