    Hello everyone

I would like to use my headphones with built in microphone as a headset. It has a 4-pole jack for audio and microphone as you can see here:

So normally if i plug it in the headphone/microphone combo port it should work, right? The thing is, i can hear sound but my laptop doesn't recognise the microphone. On the sound blaster recon3di control panel i've configured it as a headphone/microphone in but still, doesn't work.

How can i make it work? The microphone works fine, it's just that my laptop doesn't recognise it.

    Thanks.

So the right angle plug that's 4-pole, that goes directly to your headset, or is the 3-pole straight connector to the right the other end of the cord?

First, thanks for your reply! ;)

The 4-pole plug is the one that goes into my laptop, the other one goes in my headphones. In the cable there's a little microphone.
This type of plug is normally designed for mobile devices, but it's a great feature that alienware also supports it. If only it would work i mean ;)
I've searched a lot about this already, but i can't find another solution other than buying a splitter for this.

Hmm. It's either software related or the 4-pole plug is configured differently than what the audio/mic jack is. The attached pic shows how the 4-pole is supposed to be configured. Now second question is how old is that headphone cable? Remember that the AC'97 audio specs are much different than the newer HD Audio specs. An older cable may not be recognized correctly.

Definitely new enough. :mask: I woudn't email Dell. I would get in touch with one of the Alienware reps in the forums here. Dell reps don't know squat about our Alienware notebooks other than what they read off their screens. The reps here in the forums have been great as solving hardware issues.

In the advanced search box, type "Alienware" into the username search box. Look in the results for users with names like "Alienware_Luis", etc. Those guys are the Alienware reps.
