Hey guys so i'm new to these forums, but have been reading alot over the last few weeks to do my research before I get my new m17x. Since this is my first laptop AND first big purchase I wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting.

Are there any members on NBR that are from australia and have ordered through the australian dell site?

Just wondering what your m17x r3's have turned out like, did they come with/not come with anything unexpected? How's the customer service, and do you have many problems?

I'm getting the base m17x configuration on the AUS site, only upgrading the graphics to 6970m. Anyone else have this config?

EDIT: Hmm so after talking to another dell rep, turns out we've only just been allowed custom nameplates this week, but apparently our order doesn't include the mousepad and the hat that i've seen people get in those youtube videos. I'm considering possibly ordering from the US since it does seem to make more sense...

I'm from Australia but I got the m17x r2, I ordered over the phone
So far I'm really happy with this machine but it has had problems
Dells service has been Really Good (like ring them up about a problem they ring you back the same or next day to come around and fix it the next), when I talked to the technician he said that over 5yrs of fixing computers he had only ever fixed 4 Alienwares compared to hundreds of other computers so while you hear about all the problems here on the forum most people don't have any.

This actually gives me some hope considering how much I spent on it, and they send people out even in australia? I thought that was only in the US.

Nope. They're supposed to send people out in most countries I believe...think most of the countries warranties are NBD.

although having said that, I've always asked for the part myself and for me to replace it myself(after having explained I work in IT, I build my own machines, etc..) I've seen some machines butchered by the "techs" they send... By the time I call Dell Support, I've usually done a ton of troubleshooting and have pinpointed the particular component that is in need of replacement.

I'm guessing the option of using their techs is good for those who are not so technically inclined, but I always prefer to do it myself.

i got my m17x R2 late october last year and have been extremely happy with it, especially after I upgraded the CPU to a 920xm, and played around with throttlestop to really push the CPU.

Hmmm, that's pretty good that they send out techies though, since it IS my first laptop I'm not too confident playing round with the parts just yet, if it was a desktop however that'd be a different story.

Now if only there was a way to make dell send me out the AW cap and mousepad cause i'm living in australia (apparently we don't get all the goodies). perhaps they'll throw it in if I had a problem with my laptop lol.

    Neogohan,
Are you sure that Aus no longer gets the accessories like mouse pad and cap? I got my R2 in July last year and it came with all the goodies. As far as I know they do send out cap and mousepad and it might just be a temporary stock problem. The Aus alienware configurator does still say "Document and Accessories (English)" so I think the cap and mousepad are part of that package.

As far as customer service goes, they are great with warranty and on-site support. Dell warranty was the primary reason I got an Alienware computer.

Well, when I spoke to the dell sales reps who I was dealing with they said we didn't get it, (2 different reps said the same thing), which is why I was hoping someone who has managed to get the r3 in aus through the aus dell site recently could shed some light on this.

what are you guys paying in aus? I have a brand new r3/6970 for sale figured might be of interest? Im a long time ebayer so I'd accept verified paypal only but I dont mind shipping it to aus as long as shipping is covered. Im moving to an m11x
