I recently did a clean re-install of windows 7 and now I cant play avatar on BluRay anymore. I can play all of my other Bluray movies except for Avatar. I did all of the new updates for Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 and nothing has worked. Can anybody tell me how to get this movie to play? It used to play before I reinstalled windows so I know it isnt my BD player or the disc.

I work at a local electronics retailer, and we run into this problem not just with laptops, but with many Blu Ray players. The only way around it is not software, but firmware. You need to find the manufacturer of your disk drive, and see if they have provided a firmware update. If not, then you're stuck, it won't play. It's a new DRM idea the studios use to prevent piracy.

It uses redbird protection the Powerdvd that comes with the system needs to be upgraded i believe 4 times before I could play it on my lappy but it worked I had to uninstall and reinstall that version than I had enough of that crappy version and purchased Powerdvd 10 Mark 2 and I must say I am extremely happy I wanted to get the totalmedia theatre but I purchased Pdvd 10 before I found out that the new version of the Arcsoft total media supported 64 bit systems. The previous version I tried was really buggy, new version cant tell you but I swear by mark 2. simply awesome!
