Hi guys, I finally put my order in for an M17x on the 18th of this month and found myself constantly checking the order status page for an estimated delivery date.
Well, today the date came up and it's ETA is the 15th of December! Seems to be longer than other reports I've read.
The machine is pretty much standard spec except for the dual 8750s and the custom nameplate:
Alienware M17x Nebula Red Base
Intel® Core™ i7-740QM Processor (going to upgrade to 920/940XM myself)
8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM(2x4GB)
CrossFireX™ Dual 1GB GDDR5 ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5870
Genuine Windows(R) 7 Professional 64bit
Dual 500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drives (Raid 0)
Alienware Custom Nameplate
Is this a normal delivery time for Australia? Almost a month sounds a bit long compared to other delivery times I've seen on this forum (but I'm not sure where you others guys are located so it could just be an Aussie thing).
Is the ETA likely to change as the process moves along? I'm assuming the custom nameplate could add a bit to the manufacturing process too.
Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but I'm just bloody excited to be finally getting one of these beasts and I want it NOOOOOOOOOOOOW!![]()
EDIT: Just had a closer look at the whole order - I also ordered the Alienware 17" laptop backpack too and it's ETA is December 1st.

Congratulations on your purchase!
The delivery dates sounds about right to me.
My first delivery estimate was 4 weeks away, then it was revised as the m17x went through the build process and then fell to within the advertised 11-15 working days. Apparently it is also subject to availability of parts and demand.
For some reason, at the moment the AW AU site is redirected me to the US site (?) so I can't check myself - but are AW finally allowing us to specify our names on the nameplate like our US friends? Or do you mean it's just the standard nameplate that says "m17x" ?
re: The backpack - Dell AU (not sure about US etc.) send accessories separately. For instance, a colleague of mine ordered a desktop and had the mouse/keyboard arrive separately to the monitor. The PC itself also arrived by itself. While it might be great for Dell, it's not a spectacular customer experience.
Also - check out the m17x Order Status Discussion threadfor other customer experiences on delivery times and best if you continue discussion there. -
Sweet, thanks
Yeah, every time I built a machine to drool at it didn't specify the option to put your name on the nameplate like it does on the US site but when I finally took the plunge and built my final spec it had that option in there
I'm glad I waited as long as I did or I would have missed it -
Grats!
Delivery times usually take shorter than the estimated ones.
Who knows, you might get yours in say 16 days? I did. xP
Longest 16 days of my life. -

I ordered mine Sep 20 and estimated date was Oct 15, which is quite similar to yours. System was received Oct 6.

Sounds like the average then - hope my ETA gets cut down like that too
I can't want to crack that box open and see what's inside
Thanks everyone for the quick responses -
My average wait time was around 1 business week and a half to 2 weeks. Rarely ever any longer than that. However worse case sometimes up to 3 weeks is also possible.

Woot Woot! I just tried speccing out a system on the Dell Aussie website and it now gives you the option of a personalised plate
About 2 months later than I would have liked, but hey, all that complaining to the sales reps about the lack of that option must have finally done some good.... congratulations on the order, hope you like the machine.
My delivery timeframe was around the same as Corthalis, ordered around the same time, got it delivered same time as well. -
I ordered mine on the 26th of October, and I received it on the 17th of November. GPU temps are a little high but besides that I am completely happy with everything
Mine was to Adelaide if it makes any difference too you. -
ETA can sometimes change specially during holiday season. So worst case scenario would push you back couple of weeks from the initial ETA. I hope this isn't the case for you.

Hi guys, I just thought I'd give a quick status update for anyone that might be interested...
Here it is, 3rd of December and my laptop still appears to be in the "Work in Progress" phase - in fact, the order status page has not changed at all since I placed the order on the 18th of November.
I just sent an email to customer support to see if they could give me any more details on it's progress so hopefully I'll get a response some time today.
I don't know if I'm just being impatient (I'm pretty keen to get my hands on this beast as I'm sure you've all experienced) but I've read some other horror stories on this forum about orders being lost or missed so I thought I might give Dell a little "poke" before it gets too much later
I'll let you all know when Dell respond to my email or if my order status changes -
It usually stays that way until it's just about ready to deliver. You'll most likely get the phone call confirming your availability for delivery before you see any changes on the site (make sure you don't miss the calls as that's a common cause for delays). The waiting must feel like forever, I went through it too
-
Dsan, I wouldn't bother e-Mailing - as there is frequently a 24-48 hour turnaround on e-Mail responses with most companies. As good as some reps are, once you've made the purchase, many will prioritise after purchase queries etc. below new sales.
I'd recommend you instead call the customer service/sales team on [1800 812 393] and query with them directly.
Keep in mind that the 11-15 days are estimated (not guaranteed) delivery times but given you've just hit that it's not unreasonable to want to find out the status of your order. (Even if it's just to be advised that you have another week to wait, instead of wondering when it'll appear.) -
18 days for me (melbourne). made in china. i thought it would of came from malaysia's factory. they always say max 3weeks. good luck for early xmas

Well i'm not in australia, but just for sharing experience:
I placed the order the 11/11, this was the last day of a little discount available here in mexico.
The Sale Rep keept my order until the 16th wich was the day i realized the payment. The 17/11 my R2 went into production and still it is there. I've wrote a mail to dell customer care asking when they plan to ship it to me. They said that are suffering from material shortage from their vendors and this is causing them to have delay actually in the Inspiron/XPS, Vostro and Studio Lines of production, but that is should ship within next week...
The wait honestly is killing me....
Average delivery time for Australia?
