I was wondering what is the average temps of the CPU and GPU under a load. Playing SWTOR I hit 59 on the GPU and 57-63 on the CPU. Are those ok temps to be running at? They didnt seem to go up much from where they started. Idle is 51-55 on the GPU and 41-47 on the CPU. All this reported from Nvidia system tools

It depends on the machine version, and the CPU you have. Those temps are EXCELLENT. Those are what my CPU and GPU idle at. Extreme processors and GPUs tend to idle and run hotter because they take that much more juice. I haven't played Star Wars TOR so I don't know how graphic intensive that game is. Other really intensive games like MW3 can run the CPU and GPU temps in to the 80's.

I agree with radji, those temps are very good... you would only have an overheating issue if the temps start going up to 90C or so.

May i ask what software you guys use for monitoring the temp? I getting different reading from RealTemp and hwmonitor.

For example after playing intensive games, for CPU hwmonitor show a max temp of 80C while RealTemp has only a maximum of ~65C. For GPU the hwmonitor get a reading below 70C.

I use Nvidia System Tools. When I ran EQ2 tonight with a lot of things turned up as far as settings go I alt tabbed out and it was at 60 on the GPU. Not too shabby I think. The fans didnt even kick into high gear.

My 7970m hits 67 degrees MAX during long SWTOR gaming sessions with GPU usage at 99%.

Just got my wife a Targus HD3 Gaming chill mat and her idle temp went from 53ish down to 40-42 on the GPU. Not too shabby I think for $39 bucks.

After playing around with the laptop after I put the pad under mine I got about the same results on the GPU. Granted it would fluctuate between 39-43 browsing the web and scrolling through pages and what not. Not sure what it did before the pad.

The CPU temps seem to have only droped a few degrees. Sitting at about 41-44 at idle with them going up some browsing the web. Over all I still say not too bad of a pad for the money. Guess you really cant expect miracles unless you have a fan placement directly under the built in fans to much more air through.

my 7970m in the m17xr3 sits around 49 idle 55 in most games and 60-62 in BF3 at full load.

god you guys have excellent cpu temps though =/ TIME TO REPASTE.

Well both are these are brand new. Only days old. Bet if Arctic Silver or something was used it would be even lower though. I figure the cooler it stays the longer it lasts lol.

after about a year on my system I have noticed temps are kind of high but really worrisome yet, my peak is around 80-81 degrees Celsius, but it is usually in graphically intense very high detail games running in dx11 like max payne 3, Arkham city, or Crysis 2 and around 45 min to 1 hour playing time. I think older games like shadow of chernobyl and modern warfare 2 only hit a peak of 70-73 celsius on my comp, but I am not exactly sure. Best measurement tool in my opinion is hwinfo64, it gives detailed gpu temps and cpu temps, and also has a fan control applet, but I find it to be very glitchy. GPU-z and hwmonitor are also good but generally give less details and dont tell fan rpm.

I might have to replace my thermal paste (probably pk-1) and thermal pads on my system to reduce temps, I also may have to replace my heat sink, as I notice my gpu vent is not as hot as I think it should be. Has anyone replaced their heatsink here?

6990m runs very hot. During Vantage/99% load 6990m should be hitting anywhere from 80-90. Since you're in the correct zone and on the low side, I wouldn't be concerned.

Thanks, I didn't know that, I guess than I should not be concerned, but still since it has been a year I probably should replace the thermal solution and thermal pads. Oh but i still use a cooler master u3 cooling pad, so if I did not use it, it would probably be in the high end of that spectrum.

Wow... You guys are crazy cool. XD My R2 grows monstrously hot by comparison. XD

80*C average CPU temp under full load
85*C GPU temp under full load (Shaders get this hot, rest of the card hits 79*C and stays there)

Crysis 2 stresses the GPUs the most. Haven't seen these get any worse. But compared to all of your temps, mine are on fire. XD
