so how many of u have tried the bf3 beta ?
so far on my r3 with a 6990 it runs as smooth as a babies bum.
although random fps lag at the start of the map here n there, checked if it was temp related but my gfx card stays between 60-65c during the whole game.
havnt ran fraps yet to measure the fps but so far its been smooth and well playable.
im running the 11.8 drivers btw![]()
settings all full.
-
Like, ALL settings in full?
-
Have you tried the newest 11.10 drivers? Are your settings 1080p & maxed out?
-
hvnt tried the 11.10 drivers dunno if their for notebook gpu although ive been told they do increase performance quite a bit for desktop cards.
its 1080p and maxed out although it did feel at some places that the fps dropped randomly so i switched af off.
once they release caspian border with jets n other shizle it be a better test tho as this is a fairly small infantry only map on the beta atm.
there is one major annoying bug near the a bomb site on the first part where u just sink into the ground and get fairly stuck but apart from that its good fun.
im running a 2720 qm cpu and 8 gb of ram, cpu is mostly @ 40% use.
if i can find the 11.10 beta drivers for the 6990m i'll try those n see if their a good boost.
i'll try to get some clear numbers regarding fps. -
Sound great. Looking forward to it.
-
i couldn't find any settings option
here is the 11.10:
http://www.mediafire.com/?fcvbolwf2nyj5s8 -
-
settings n stuff is all ingame
it looks amazing, lol just found the ultra settings.
i'll try with those first and the 11.8 drivers n get some avrg fps then the 11.10 -
i get 25-35fps on ultra and i'm oc'ed to 800/1100. high seems to be the sweet spot for the 6990.
-
i get a stable 30 fps on 11.8 on those settings, althought without af16x n stuff
stable 30 fps with the 6990 @ 11.8 drivers @ ultra with post processing off and af off
stock settings no o.c
downloading the 11.10 now -
Ultra settings textures aren't in the game yet. So while you can put your settings on ultra, they're really just high.
With my rig on auto-detected settings it's pretty much just 30 FPS at the lowest and highest - give or take a few - which imo for a game like Battlefield, isn't desirable - a full 60 is better. While settings can be tweaked, none seem to have a major impact on the FPS, at least compared to BF BC2 settings. With most settings between medium & high I can get a 35-45 FPS average outside, and 35-70 FPS inside. This is at 1920x1080 with the new beta ATI drivers. I'm also seeing about 40% CPU usage. It's pretty consistent there, and doesn't spike.
Dropping to 1280x720 I can pretty much max everything and get 60+ FPS, but this resolution isn't really desirable. I still have more tweaking to do, and hopefully the final game will be slightly more optimized. -
i'm getting a solid 70fps @ high settings with med. shaders and 2x AA, 6990oc'ed @ 800/1100
-
how are you guys actually getting in the game?
I'm using the server browser, using a filter to only return servers that have more than 5 spaces available, and picking servers that arent full. Then I get one of the following: "joining server" which never ends, a Queue that will eventually time out, a message that the server is now full even though it showed 7/32 when I clicked it, or server cannot be found.
It's beyond frustrating. -
just been doing the quick match, only been in queue once but exited out and back in.
-
just find a server and get your friends in aswell
havnt had any issues with any eu servers apart from a few server crashes when things finaly started to get good -
so a few reboots and setting my browser to run as administrator seem to have fixed my getting in the game issues...
-
uac off is the way forward anyways

On a different note, this is not a good beta. It lacks a lot of polish. I can't even get into the options menu to change settings unless I am alive and in a game, and it closes as soon as you die. I considered cancelling my order, but I'm hoping the single player will be worth it.
That said, it is pretty. I was running my 6990M @ 800/1100 at a hybrid of Ultra and High settings and it was smooth. I can run on full ultra, but it can get a little choppy. -
there is no ultra yet its just runnin high when u do it.
the game is great however the squad system is terrible but i think its just like this for the beta, hoping that i can get with my clan in a squad n stuff.
regarding the options, tbh u only need to set it once and then its allright. just spawn @ base and go prone n set it up. as simple as that.
the main annoying thing is the dropping into the ground bug but thats more or less it. -
caspian border is quite epic
although its a tad hard to play when half your team is trying to hog the planes n stuff
-
how'd you get to caspian border?
-
guess the pw or keep an eye on the bf3 official forums
although i think their opening them up tomorrow for the full open beta -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
I just played Caspian and it is truly awesome!

unable to get the 11.10 working in a 6990m. keep on getting bsod on atikmag.dll
have downloaded the modded mobility version. desktop version not even installing.
but on 11.8 game works just fine on ultra and 4x msaa. -
the modded driver worked for me, after i forced windows to not care about it being properly signed, that is.
-
I have played the beta with both 11.8 and 11.10 drivers, 11.10 doesn't feel much smoother, fraps says its about 4-5 fps faster, but mayb. that server was less crowded. Playing medium-high settings with 40-60 fps @ 1920*1080 (6990m)
-
desktop drivers wont install for mobile gpu anyways,
11.10 drivers installed no issues here, although i cant say there is a masive boost. maybe they didnt do much for the mobile side of things. the game does however run smooth but when they actualy add the ultra shaders n stuff i dont think the fps will be as playable as it is on high ( or ultra settings in beta wich are high aswell ;p ) -
How would you think the 6970 would handle BF3 (maxed out) compared to the 6990?
or would you recommend different settings / screen size when playing? -
-
6970 is a wee bit slower as the 6990 so the fps will be a wee bit less but still playable
i reckon u shouldnt have issues on high but u can try it by downloadin the open beta wich should launch for everybody today -
i actualy turn off motion blur as its just plain annoying.
with hbao off u be able to run it at very good fps
with hbao on i can play smoothly on the 6990m not sure if the 6970 will do the same -
I have the r2 version with 2 4870s going at it. I can only play on low any ideas? LIke OCing how and what driver should I be on please help
Thanks
Do you think I should up my ram being only 4gigs ddr3? Its an i7 the lowest model CPU for i7 -
for whatever reason, the beta on my m17x r2 has flickering issues using crossfire. I hope AMD fixes this issue and soon! It's quite annoying!
-
crossfire might not actualy work properly yet with bf3 so u could have lower fps with crossfire turned on then just runnin a single card
-
I'm getting about 30-35 frames outside on ULTRA settings using the system in my signature and crossfire DISABLED.
-
-
i actualy get some flicker here n there with a single 6990m
-
I get nice playable frame on Ultra everything. Even Blur. I don't mind it as it also smooths out uneven frames. I'm guessing I'm getting over 30fps for sure outside. My 580m clocked at 800/1800.
-
a upload a video of battlefield 3 multi , soon, it wil be in HD .
Battlefield 3 Beta multi Alienware m17x R3 gtx485m - YouTube
On that settings, i got btw 38-45 FPS -
How can you really check to see if crossfire is working when playing BF3? -
easy to check if crossfire is working.
if u get more fps with crossfire turned on u know its working
i believe ctrl-alt s makes bf3 show fps
any output will still use crossfire -
I've tried the beta and have had some problems.
The first game was fantastic, with level of detail in Ultra had an average of about 35-38fps a highs of over 50fps indoors and min 29fps.
In the second game has fallen to 20-22fps, and are the same results in detail Ultra, High or Medium.
Elsewhere have managed to have 24-26fps, but I have not seen the 35-38fps average
All this in a HD6990M
One friend with Hd6970M have exactly the same problems
are the drivers? my notebook or the game? -
-
-
Are you kidding me!!?!!!! I've have this refurb a little over 3 weeks. I knew the 460m wasn't the fastest card, but when trying to play BF3 beta it says, "Detected NVidia driver version 267.64; minimum version is 285.27; please update drivers on nvidia.com/drivers before playing the game." It seems that dell has stopped supporting my card, can I use modified drivers?
-
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
they never really supported it to begin with
this (laptop2go) site makes modded infs for nividia drivers. just download the modded inf by clicking on the green link and put it in the C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\285.27\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver folder. if you don't have the original 285.27 drivers get them here. if you haven't already tried to install, try it without putting the inf in and let it extract itself, then put the inf in the folder above. after this is done the install should go smoothly If you need help or have more questions feel free to ask
-
I have no crossfire issues. Both cards are running fine without any flickering. Drivers are currently at 11.8. I'm averaging about 40-50 FPS on High setting with Med on shade on 1920 x 1200. Everything on Ultra with 0xAA puts me around 25-30 FPS. Card temperatures were about 70C and 60C. I hope they can optimize a little bit more so I can run it at High with 60 FPS!
-
R3 6970M (stock clocks)
1920x1080 Medium - High Settings (no AA / HBAO): 40-65 FPS
1600x1040 Medium - High Settings (no AA / HBAO): 55-90 FPS
I was wondering which resolution beneath 1080P is the next one which will keep the aspect ratio of my display... (1280x768 looks so awkward!). I like to play in my native 1080P resolution, but to get constant 60+ FPS I would sacrifice 1080P for a lower one.
BTW the game is awesome! -
However...my temps are WAY higher. Yet, everything seems to be going fine. No lagging or odd screen effects. I am beginning to wonder if my sensers are funky cause they always read high yet everyone one else with the same config seems to have much lower temps then my read outs. Hmm. (GPU-z says my temps are getting way into the upper 90's)
I was thinking about doing the repaste that everyone talks about...just makes me worry. Dont have the $400 bucks to buy a new card if I crack the die trying to get the old heat sinks off. I mean is there a trick to that or do you just keep wiggling it until they come off? Oh well thats a topic for a different thread.
Edit: Oh yeah...despite my sig, I am on 11.9 drivers -
playing on ultra, getting between 28 and 46fps. no o/c.
