50-60fps ultra preset.
1600x900 res
920xm @3.2 Ghz
7970m 850/1200 2gb vram .975v
4gb ram -
That's pretty good. That 900p screen is helping you out there.
There are some scenes where I see dips below 20 FPS with the 780M, mainly dust and/or fog in the game really takes a dump on the GPU. But, on average, I'm seeing 40-60 FPS, which is good. Although, I did expect more FPS in the actual game as opposed to the Beta, but it looks about the same. -
so ive been seeing between 45-70 fps, average of about 60fps in most maps. this is with all settings set to ultra, at 1080p. specs are 780m(stock clocks) i7 4800, 16gb ram. max gpu temp of 70. with a slight overclock ill probably beable to maintain 60fps at all times. only lag im seeing is network lag, probably due to my old and dying router. time for an ac router!
-
Mine has just come through. Will provide an up update soon on how it runs on alienware m17xr2 with 7970m card and 840qm CPU.
Stay tuned

bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
I'm holding off buying the game till I finish off my desktop build and can run it maxxed out at over 60fps.
CptXabaras likes this. -
Sounds like a solid plan. I'm actually debating on whether or not I should build a desktop, too. That is, once my laptop sells.
-
im getting crashes now...
-
Early indication is 45-70 fps on a 64 player map without OCing with Ultra setting at 1080p. Better than I expected really! This is with the 331.65 driver btw.
-
Anyone here now why my OSD MSI Afterburner won't show on screen during playing BF4 ?
The same problem occurs when my 1st time playing Battlefield 3 but I forget the solution....
Anyone can share ? -
BF4 is a 64-bit game and Rivatuner only supports 32-bit. Until the developers change that, it won't work.
FRAPS is the only reliable program now. -
I see.... so that's why it won't show up even after I put in on the list....
anyone experience micro stutering on this game ? it really affect the sound during playing. It is because I still using 331.58 driver ? or because I just push the setting on the high setting ? -
I also am having problems with stuttering - seems to be coming from sound.
I just installed new driver yesterday - my M17x R4 has the 680M and 3940xm cpu.
Anyone else having stuttering issues? -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
broke down and bought Battlefield 4 before I should of. Runs at 40-60fps with a mixture of high and medium settings.
-
That's pretty good with a 6990M. Have you considered upgrading to a 7970M or 8970M? You'll see about the same FPS, but on a mixture of High and Ultra.
-
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
then I'd have to scimp out on my desktop card as that is all i'm waiting on at this point (I've got the money for the rest of the build). Think I'm gonna go with a EVGA 780 Classified for $579, overclock it to the moon, and call it a day. 780 ti custom cards are going to be rather pricey it seems.
Not gonna buy everything until cyber-monday as I hope to save some money as well for more stuff.
-
Oh, yeah, I'd get a desktop 780 over a laptop upgrade... I forgot you were building a desktop.
The 790 should be coming out soon, right? Like last year's 690, but it will have the performance of two 780's? That will be a beast of a card.
-
Ok opening scene I am about 15-20 fps with 840qm and 7970m. Using 13.6 beta drivers.
EDIT: Updated to 13.9 beta and yup beautiful stuff now getting 48 fps average with 64 peak and 32 minimum on ultra.
What a great game and combat and audio 5 stars.
Has anyone noticed some stuttering even running at 50+ fps? Doesn't feel normal with this pausing/stutter.
Notebookcheck released its benchmarks on bf4 with various cards.

Looks like bf4 made for AMD

I am on ultra with 2xMSAA and SSAO (4900mq and 780m) - seems to be between 40 and 60FPS all the time (Campaign and Multiplayer) though around 25-30FPS when things get very hectic and stuff starts falling down. I am however noticing the micro-stuttering! It's not enough to stop me enjoying the game but definitely seems weird
EDIT: Seems the microstutter is partly down to vsync? has anyone else with microstutter tried turning it off? -
Robbo99999 Notebook Prophet
Haha, the man with the plan! (Those 290X's will fly though, if you get one with an aftermarket cooler!) -
I am still having microstutter even with vsync off. I am using a 144hz monitor connected to the laptop (running lightboost) and I still have microstutter.
Seems better when I turn down details but its still there. Game doesn't seem to be very well optimized at this point. Also noticing a lot of net code issues (you appear to get one shotted alot) even though the guy was probably firing at you for 2 seconds. -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
its tempting... but the 780's have a heck of a lot more overclocking room plus they run cooler. Plus if I really like the 780 ti I can always pay the difference and upgrade thanks to the EVGA trade up program.
Yea seems to be a lot of rubber banding issues for me as well and I hope they fix them soon as it gets quite annoying. As to the Nvidia issues, I predict a new driver coming out soon boosting performance as they seem to be behind AMD across the board fps wise. -
Hey Gang,
I believe the console command to check fps is perfoverlay.drawfps 1
I didn't have a chance to check my FPS (got too immersed playing with my squad) will reply when I get the number today.
None-the-less it ran beautifully on my 770m on ULTRA will everything maxed. I would guess the FPS is well beyond 40 but I am running it on a 1600x900 screen. I am running the October 28th Beta drivers. -
Found it here
Command to Display Your FPS in Battlefield 4
Thx a lot, will try later.
-
Do you think it is a game or driver issue or both? I have found vsync causes me stutter problems in a few games (Splinter Cell, Metro) - is it true that triple buffering with D3D overrider would help these? I can handle vsync off in BF4 but in Splinter Cell there is screen tear
-
Get the 780. I'd steer clear of the 290X. I read it has a really high temperature limit and AMD has claimed 95C to be a 'normal operating temperature' for the 290X, which may shorten the life of the card. Seems like more of a risk to me...for what? You'll also have less headroom for overclocking with the 290X. But I'd definitely wait a bit for the price to drop when the 780Ti comes out.
Here's some more info on the 780Ti: Galaxytech GeForce GTX 780 Ti Spec Sheet Leaks
EDIT: Looks like the prices have already fallen approximately $150. -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Well I'd be eventually putting the cards under water so it won't really matter to much on temps. The 780 ti is pretty tempting, but its gonna quite a bit more money than the 780 classified. Whats nice is with the EVGA Trade in program I can swap up within 90 days of my purchase.
EVGA Step-Up® - Upgrade program -
To trome71 from other thread fraps is what I use to show fps in game.
As for the stuttering in game not sure what is causing it. I noticed it bad when moving around with mouse it was not smooth so it's not the keyboard at fault like some other games of the past with stutter issues (unreal engine) games.
Have yet to check bf4 forums for a fix either cause shanghai level very smooth no stutter there. Will reload 1st level to see if the issue is still apparent. -
It tells me that all settings are to high, but when just giving a big f.... and starting to play on ultra settings i get to 40-60 fps during game.
Guess there are differences on how many in the game, bigger games probably less fps.
For me it could be CPU breaking it a bit.
Ill test another day on how the different maps and sizes work on the FPS.
Have done the "perfoverlay.drawfps 1" but in a userfile from a description " How to Create a User.cfg File in BF4 to Load Settings on Startup " that starts it automatically. -
Don't listen to the 'in-game' performance test, lol. Just play the game...
-
Mmmmmm when i see i can play at ultra setting while it tells me the lowest setting even is bad, i know not to use those tests anymore.
But i have slight stuttering when game goes to lower clocks. I did even see 30's fps ingame. When i fix my PSU i will try to increase current slightly on my now stock CPU in T-stop and that will increase cpu by about 30%. -
what does "gametime.maxvariablefps 60" do?
-
Guess it limits it to 60. But not sure.
-
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
yea sounds like it limits your framerate to 60hz.
-
Many screens have 60Hz as max framerate that you shouldnt exeed.
Read more about it here:

Maybe someone can help.
I just installed bf4 .
When I click the shortcut on home screen to play bf4 it goes to a web page for bf4 . Is it supposed to to do that . I have windows 7 . Alienware 17 . Nvidia 327.45 . When I try to play campaign it loads then the game is slow motion like 2 frames per second and my task bar is still at bottom of screen and the top of screen says bf4 like I'm playing inside a window even if I maximize the screen. Shouldn't it be in full screen or what . I can't play the game at all .
I can play crysis 3 and all my other games on the highest settings without a glitch . Smooth as butter for hours . What am I doing wrong .its like it's trying to play the game of the internet instead of my hard drive . -
Is your computer plugged in? You can't play a game like BF4 on battery.
-
Yes it's plugged in .
I'm in the middle of installing driver 331.65 and my screen just went black in the middle of install. Now I can't see anything . This is driving me crazy -
You should rollback your driver to the stock Alienware driver (311.48) and then update to the latest from NVIDIA. Every driver before 331.xx was not made with BF4 in mind.
-
I updated to 327.45 from dells website and it updated ok but when I tried to update to 331.65 my screen went black and my cpu fan started to run high and after 5 minutes I had to power off laptop and restart and reinstall 327.45. Is it normal for it to that . Should I wait longer . Should I be in dedicated graphics mode when I do update . Sorry never done nvidia update before
-
Rollback to 311.48 then update to 331.65. You can do this through the device manager by going to your GPU's properties.
-
Will try that thanks
-
Do I need to be in dedicated graphics mode when updating driver or in Optimus mode
-
Thanks jdre the game is working great with new driver 331.65 . Now all I have to do is figure out how to play it ha ha. Thumbs up .
-
No problem, glad to help.
-
Battlefield 4 is unplayable on the PC
this is just sad...
i found that playing on a 48 player map instead of 64 expierences server crashes a lot less. -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
glad they are finally allowing more than 100 tickets for 64 player team death match. 5 minute games with 64 players was just ridiculous!!
-
I am up to the ship mission and boarded the carrier with the inflatable dinghy. Has anyone noticed some weird colours inside that ship? Like the lens flare intefers with natural lighting on the soldiers face etc ie doesn't look normal.
I really enjoying game so far. The modelling of faces is unique and the engine dice have upgraded its certainly making progress. The faces though, look a tad weird in modelling. -
Agreed! it was so funny
