Faster boot time for me. Windows seems a little snappier.

and Alien head button does light up on startups now.

I don't know if these things were fixes or not but I do notice the things I listed.

I don't have flickering, that post was me reacting to someone else's post saying they had flickering with the new bios.

Yeah, no flickering here either. It was an isolated incident I think. In fact, I think Crysis Wars runs better, or at least cooler now :D

so just to sum up my impressions from this bios :

    1. the fans go nuts when you power on/return from sleep/hibernate
    2. if you disable bluetooth/wired lan/modem in the bios the machine will not boot (keyboard lights up but screen stays black)
    3. temps under load seem to be slightly lower, idle temps are the same.

My alien head is still off when i cold boot the system. Reboot its on, but cold boot the power button doesnt light up until CC loads.

Yea the fans are insane now lol.

Nothing else seems different so far. System still boots normally with no delays.

    Hi

Does anyone have any issues with the screen. iv tried with dell video drivers and catalyst 10.4 and the same happens.

i close the lid for approx 10mins. When i open i get black background nothing at all on screen apart from mouse cursor. I have to ctrl+alt+del then press cancel to get my desktop back. I have 4870 cf's

    Cheers

Not so far. I just updated yesterday. In most caes this is caused by bad video drivers. I am still on 10.3 preview ones

I just installed the bios update. Other than my video card fan making a grinding noise since then I haven't noticed much of a difference.

Call Dell get a new fan, if it grinds it means it's a bit loose.

Any one noticed that with the computer overclock 5% in the bios, 140 Mhz FSB reverted back to 133 Mhz after it went to sleep and wake up?
Reboot puts it back to 140.

I read in this thread somewhere that the bios also allows the power button and the alienware head on the lid to light up when the computer starts. Mine did that the first couple of starts but it has stopped doing that. Anyone know why?

Sounds like this bios isn't going to be to great. I have also started notising more problems. My processor going into turbo mode more often and it boosts it higher than what it did before A05. Also simmple programs like thunderbird, firefox, and outlook are taking much longer to open then they used to. Is it possible to go back to A04?

It's seems that catalyst 10.4 is the issue. Go back to 10.3

Oh, one question, do you need to mod the drivers on the R2 for them to install?

No need to mod the drivers. There are mobility versions for all the latest versions.

Virtualization lets you share system resources to run a whole other operating system instance in a virtual machine "sandbox." You can use stuff like VMware, VirtualPC, or VirtualBox to do this.

The virtualization option in the BIOS sets a few options on the processor/chipset so that you can run a 64-bit OS sandboxed within a 64-bit OS (otherwise you can only run a 32-bit OS). If you just want to run (for example) 32-bit WinXP in a VM, you don't have to enable virtualization, though it wouldn't hurt, either.

What nburro said. Here is a pic to represent what he just said:

    ;) + Windows 7 + Ubuntu 10.04

All are powered simultaneously by VirtualBox. It's like having 3 different computers with 3 different OS's all controlled with a single mouse and keyboard.

    Neat, eh?

PS. Ok, no more showing off, lol.

Guys, I've mentioned it in another thread but if any of you start hearing grinding noises from your cooling fans please report here. I have a suspicion the bios is causing this. It happened to me and to at least one more user here after installing a05.

I haven't had the fan grind, but my Alien Heads no longer light up on power on until AlienFX starts up in Windows.

Yes, the fans on full blast when coming back from sleep is a little annoying. Why would they change this? or at least, why not fix this?

Mine work fine once AlienFX starts up. Hopefully we'll get that new CC release soon that has the fixed firmware and fix this once and for all.

I have that and my guess is because the computer is starting the fan from complete stop to full blast.

    that's exactly what i think.
in normal operation mode the fan is accelerating step by step, here it goes from 0 to 100 and i believe this damages the fans.

I think we are going to start seeing more and more people complaining about it.
