So I just reinstalled W7 and everything was going fine until I installed Alienware Command Center (but somebody told me it was Microsoft net things fault). I got spammed sooooo many BSODs and the funny part is, this is the only time my laptop ever BSODs on me. I installed my drivers EXACTLY like I was supposed to and the only way I got over this BSOD flood was to just pray and hope it starts up. Is there anything I should know? Anything you should know because I'm super tired and just woke up and I probably made 0 sense? I'd just like to know if any of you guys have had the same problem.

    -Best Regards,
    Toledano

I just did a fresh install on my M17xR3 last night. Here's how I did it.

    1. Installed only one SSD/HD into middle slot
    2. Performed a clean install of Win7
    3. Installed Wireless Network Drivers so I could connect to internet
    4. Installed Microsoft Net and DX
    5. Downloaded updates from Windows update. I did this in groups(Win7 Updates, Security updates, Microsoft Net, etc. I did the Important ones first then the Optional. I left IE9 and SP1 to the end.)
    6. Install Drivers for Chipset, SATA, Intel Management Engine, USB, etc)
    7. Installed Alienware OSD and Command Center.

I've done a few fresh installs on my Laptop that haven't gone so well. Always ended with a BSOD(IRQ error, etc). Doing it this way worked. I also downloaded all the drivers from Dell's website and expanded them onto a flash drive. Then I went into device manager and updated by clicking on those drivers that needed updating and pointed it to my flashdrive.

Oh, thanks for the help and after I waited for that BSOD marathon to pass, everything went smoothly. On #5, I thought you had to install those first before any updates? I dunno, i'm like a 3/10 when it comes to computers.

ht_addict is right. There appears to be a problem with installing Command Center from the resource disk, at least for some people. I've seen it recommended to not use that disk at all, if possible. Instead, get the drivers for your machine from the dell website, in advance.

Yup, I never even got the resource DVD so I downloaded it from the Dell Support page. And I hope you enjoy your Alienware :D

It appears that the issue's been resolved on Resource DVD's from October 2010 on. However, like you said, still best to get the drivers and applications from the website.

Cool, thank you for the link! :)
There's a link to this issue in the r3 owners lounge, AlienFX Problems/Questions Thread. There are fairly recent posts in that thread that mention this problem and even link to it in the Dell Forums. This link isn't posted there, to my memory though. It should be posted, for people researching. Would you, or would you mind if I do?

Good point! I'll post it there as well. Hopefully more people will see it. :)
I came across the link while researching the issue for another member here having those issues.

Once your done updates it will then offer you to install SP1. SP1 is always the last thing I install.

i always had random BSOD's with my 460m after a fresh install until got windows SP1 installed. After that I never had any issues. Not sure why it causes issues though.
