Hi all,
Having an issue where my M17x R4 will often not boot up properly after being shut off for a while (a few days or more usually). It will come up with the black screen and beep codes. I have counted them up before and I think it was pointing towards motherboard. That being said I have always been able to get it up and running again by removing the laptop battery and powering up while holding the END key to reset the BIOS settings. I have updated the BIOS to latest version but problem still reappears. I am thinking it may be a CMOS battery issue which is causing the settings to get corrupted. Any other thoughts?
Also was wondering if someone knows where I can get a NEW replacement CMOS battery for a reasonable price?
Thanks!

Assuming that is the same one that is in the Alienware 17R1 which I have then it was a CR2032 which is pretty common across most motherboards as the coin cell battery. You might have to open the system up to double check it but it shouldn't be hard to find. The owners manual shows it right below the bottom cover directly below one of the two fans, can't tell which from the picture.
EDIT: Amazon/Ebay or pretty much any big box store like Walmart should carry them I would think.Last edited: Mar 21, 2017 -
if its a standard CR2032, you can pick one up just about anywhere, including auto parts stores, Ford parts departments(Ford still uses these in key fobs), Walgreens, Radioshack, Walmart in jewelry dept(must ask for them, behind the counter)

Thanks for the replies. Didn't realize that it was just a common battery. Picked up a replacement and will see if it helps with my issue. Cheers
Bad CMOS battery and where to buy replacement?
