I've been looking at these forums for a very long time now. I took the plunge and bought a new M17x R3 with the 6970m and finally received it today after 5 weeks of waiting.
I bought Crysis 2 to play on this thing and so that was the first game I installed. At 1920 by 1080 with Vsync and Extreme graphics settings i only pull 30 fps while walking around. This seemed really low to me so I did a 3dMark Vantage run and only pulled about P11000 C.c
Is it me or is this WAY below what it should be?
I'm not running the IGP, the drivers are stock and the battery is on high performance. Something seems off here....I hope someone can help me get my fps and vantage score up.

The 6970M downclocks if you're running on battery. You should be plugged in. The average 3D Mark Vantage with the 6970M (and 2630QM) is about 12k, so you're not MUUUCH lower, but you are slightly.

Lmao, I knew I forgot some important stuff :)
I was plugged in and I do have the 2630QM. But I thought the avarage score on vantage was about 14k? Maybe I just expected closer to a dual gpu performance then what I should have...

11k is still slightly lower than it should be. Go to control panel, system, and then device manager, and make sure nothing needs updated drivers.

Yeah, make sure DirectX is fully updated. That made a big difference for me. I would think you'd be getting in the 12k's, not 11k. I get over 14k with overclocking.

Just wanted to post an update, I took a look at directX and after updating I pulled P12006 so that seems good.
And Srqt, at what settings and res do you get that fps?
At 1920x1080 @ very high I get between 40-60. I just thought the 6970m could pull 40-50 @ extreme no problem. Maybe that's just wishful thinking though

Edit: my laptop is acting even more strange today. Playing Crysis 2 at very high nets the same fps margins, but for some reason it drops down to 20-30 fps for about two minutes every 5 minutes or so. Gpu temps don't go over 80c.
I also notice my ram usage stays at about 45% on idle, even though I have 4 gig and there are seemingly no rogue processes.
Maybe worth doing a gpu repaste and going to 8 gigs of ram?

I play Crysis 2 on the middle settings and get 50-60fps. It does play around 30-40fps on high settings and res at 1080p.

The guy with the 6870 is NOT getting 60 fps on 1080p on high settings. Not possible unless they are overclocking high.

I run it at about 60 fps very high , 1080p and about 40 fps at extreme settings
But i find playing at 60 fps alot more fun so i keep it on very high :X.
