I just received my refurbished Alienware m17x r3 this morning, everything is good except the screen!!! There is a bad pixel on my screen!!! And ITS CLEARLY NOTICEABLE!! Can I ask for switching another one?? I'm really appriciate if someone could help me!!! :(
Updated:After they replaced my screen, the "new" screen still has bad pixels or dust inside...
Updated:I noticed when I was watching videos or playing video games, sometimes the temp of cpu rose quickly and then dropped back to normal. Whenever it happens, the frame drops as well, and screen becomes lagging... Does it mean my cpu is throttling??

Just call Dell support. They'll probably want to exchange it, but you may be able to get a technician to come out and repair it.

I'm not sure if that is a bad pixel or not, I can even see it when the laptop is power off! It's more like a dirt or something but can't be removed...

I was looking at the black dot...and there also seems like a wipe blotch right under it (which could be a smudge) or maybe not

looks like a stuck pixel. Just get it exchanged, and if you do it now, they won't hassle you about it cause you just got the laptop :)

@ Willoc don't settle for less than a replacement laptop the screens they send are worst in most of the cases because they are refurb

I never thought about them bringing a refurb screen to replace it. Yeah, if you go the screen replacement route, it's kind of luck of the draw. I had them replace the screen on my M17x and it was a brand new one :)

no problem last machine I had to go to 3 screens before they issue a replacement laptop that's why I told you that

make them transfer you to a resolution expert to return the laptop and tell that agent that all you want is a replacement or you don't want the laptop they will give you the EXG ;)

you can tell if the screen is new if the antenna cables are straight sometimes but even if is new they may have stuck-dead pixels :)

Hey Speedy... I found another issue about my refurbish m17x... The temperature of its motherboard is really high around 85℃ with 100% load... I can use the back of my laptop cooking food with that temp...

They said because I received the laptop with 21 days, so I can't ask for a replacement... Is that true? Or refurbished laptop couldn't ask for replacement??

You already have a screen coming the only thing you can do is wait for them to replace it and if the new screen is good call them one more time to find out why the laptop is running hot

If the new screen is not good just call support and ask to be transfer to sales resolution specialist to return the machine when you talk to them ask for a replacement or if not you want to return the machine they will give you the replacement :)

All the machines with issues qualify for a replacement don't matter if is refurb sometimes you get new machine as a replacement for your refurb and sometimes you get trash

Mostly Aw. screen were properly tested yah there might be few get out with some dead pixels. Usually there might be a Dust particle between screen and protective plastic lid, which cant be removed. Only way for replacement of Screen. On this matter ive already had two screen replacement. Now Screen is clear so far. but havin some other issues, so Aw. gona replace my M17x With M18x :)

Wow Nice! when i had my R2 with the pixel at first they offered me a screen replacement then the replacement was "Brand new" but it was really a refurb and it was worse with dust and pixels inside. All they told me is I can get my money back even after the 21 days, I refused and gave me an brand new R3 + $50 for all the troubles. Wished they gave me a m18x like u, but I tried and they wouldn't do it. What whatever im happy with mine.

Your brand new R3 is pretty good man! I'd like them could replace my laptop too... All the overheating and bad pixel things drive me crazy... After they exchange my screen, the replacement was still with bad pixels or maybe dust inside. But all they told me is they gonna replace me another screen :( Did you tell them you want have your laptop replaced?

Is there any specific way to check if you have a dead pixel?
I just got my unit and what I did is just opened paintbrush, painted the page black and view it full screen. I tried different colors (white, red, blue, green) and did the same by viewing the color-filled page full screen to see if there are dots or something.

I didnt see anything so can I say that my screen is OK?

you could check it that way! Or you can just find some pure color pictures and view them in full screen as well. If u didnt see any dots then ur screen should be fine

Long story short, My refurb R2 had dead pixels they replaced the screen but it was worse. I got tossed around in customer support for like 3 days without any help then i got to one of those executive customer care support. The guy said he will give me an exception to get my money back even after the 21 day return policy I refused the offer and he said he will call me back on what he can do, then after 2 days he offered me a brand new r3, and accepted it. That r3 they said it shipped but checked the status it was cancelled, I waited for it to arrive for a week and they didnt tell me that it got cancelled, so the guy made another request and i waited another week and finally got it, this explains the additional $50. That was my first r3 I sold that already around november. This one in my sig a different one that i got on december.

In your case if your 3rd screen replacement is bad again call them up and demand a replacement. Also inform them about your temp issues. Last thing they could offer u is your money back or a replacement with similar or comparable specs. If they cant get a hold on another refurb replacement you will get a new one, another problem with a new one is they dont offer the 580m anymore and if u dont like amd and say you want the 580m there is a small chance you can get an m18x to compensate the loss of you 580m.

Lastly, Im sure that a simple repaste can fix your temp issues, also check the vents and fans for dust since its a refurb. The lagging you see when you play games is probably the 580m throttling and not your processor.

    Thx for the help man!
Last time when they came they already replaced my vents and fans and repasted as well... But they temp issues still remain unsolved. And as you mention, maybe its the 580m throttling not my processor.
It's really strange cause the temp shown on GPU-Z is normal, but when I touched the bottom of my laptop its really warn...

Maybe the tech did a bad job on repasting? About your throttling issue have you tried solutions other members here have done? I can't really help much on that issue because I dont have a 580m. Maybe try raising up ur laptop a little bit from the back like a small book or 2 bottle caps as some members here recommended. I raise my laptop with a old portable hd enclosure lol and it helps a lot in decreasing temps.

I watched the tech repasting and it was good. I'm not sure man, I'll wait and see after they replace my screen and gpu vent today... Right now I just use a cooling pad to raise my laptop to decrease temps like u said. :p
