Hi all, :hi2: I have an Alienware M17XR3 and yesterday my laptop suddenly got switched off and when i restart, the battery stays in 0% for long time.. The windows battery icon says ( 0% Available, Plugged in, Charging ) but its been hours and its not getting charged.. When i disconnect the AC Power adapter, laptop gets into sleep and shuts itself down!!..

I have tried the usual tips available online like

taking out the battery and pressing the power button for 30 seconds to 1 minute and inserting the battery again but its not working
I turned off the laptop and tried charging that way.. not working!

I downloaded and installed Alien Autopsy and ran a check the battery, it passed the test!!.. I have no idea whats causing the problem and i tried to update the BIOS but it says the battery should have minimum 15% charge! lol :D

Please help me out guys.. :(

Thanks a lot in advance :)

Try battery bar and see what is the health of the battery ! that might give you a better insight

    Hi,

Try to borrow another Dell (it has to be Dell, not HP, which also fits or anything else) PSU with the same wattage or higher than your original PSU. If it still does not charge your battery, you need to get a new DC port for your mainboard and re-solder it.

I tried that but it doesnt say anything about health?!

I tried my brother's alienware 18's ( latest one ) power adapter and left it for hours and not getting charge!.. Interestingly i tried my power adapter into his alienware 18 and it was able to charge the laptop from 85% to 100% !!.. So i think power adapter is working fine?!.

This laptop was bought while in U.S and now i am in india.. I hope international warranty applies here?!.. I still have warranty till 2015?!..

    Is the battery dead?!..

    Please help..

Ok, you just confirmed the PSU is fine, since it charges the battery in another Alienware machine. When you test the battery via AlienAutopsy check the mAh ratings of designed capacity and fully charged capacity. If you see a degradation of up to 30% this is normal and the battery is fine, it will simply last 30% less time on full charge. You would not need a new battery as long as you are happy with a bit less battery life. You will need to get the DC replaced on the mainboard, since you still have the warranty, you will get this sorted free of charge. I am not sure how warranties work outside of the country where the laptop was bought though.

I'm 99% sure the battery is not working fine. Try a battery diagnosis software to look for the current wear level.

Just try plug your AC Cord but don't turn it ON....... Leave it for about 15-20 minutes and then Power ON your laptop.....

Mine sometimes seen that too..... just try this method, hope it works in your system.....

Ok i think my battery is dead.. Today i turned my laptop on and to my surprise laptop started charging and i was really happy that the problem solved, but when the battery got charged i disconnected the AC Power adapter. Within a minute or so, the battery came down to 7% and started giving me low battery warning!

So i think the battery is dead and also here is the screen shot of alien autopsy battery test.. The batter wear is more than 33% !!..

    battery_alien autopsy.JPG

I tried the battery bar pro and it says the battery wear 35% of 93,240 mWh !!..

So what do you guys think?.. I think the battery is dying and gonna end soon :(

It does look like that 35% wear is a lot and the fact that it looses the charge that fast confirms it.
