Hi everyone,
I figure a great number of us will be playing the beta from the 29th-10th while BF3 is in open beta. Let's post our specs and preferred graphics settings so some us can do some tweaking to get the best experience possible. I suggest adding your FPS to those specs and game settings as well
M17x R3
i7 2630QM
12 GB RAM
AMD 6870M 2GB
750GB x2 WD Black in RAID 0
I'll post my findings tonight or tomorrow.

How would a 460m do? I'd love to try it out, but I won't be home for a couple of days.
-
Does ATI6870m hav 2gb version?

My 6870 is the 2GB ver.
-
On my 580m. Clocked to 800/1800. All ultra, everything. AA and post AA, even blur. Get smooth and great performance inside and out. At least 30fps.

bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
specs posted below: I started running with the standard GPU clock speeds and have been getting around 40fps with the 460 on auto settings(mainly medium settings with high textures). I Overclocked to 815/1630/1500 and get about 65C with the back end propped up running furmark for a while. Ill try and see what settings I can increase without sacrificing to many Fps and update this post

So how fun is bf3 so far?
-
6970m
I'm getting 17-27 fps outside the metro station on ULTRA. (Forest Area)
Inside I'm getting 25-35 fps. (Inside the Metro Station)
25-40 fps outdoor building area.
Stock clocks. External Monitor with 1080p.
ATI 11.10 Driver.
However, the game is still playable, even when it hits low fps. -
most of them are campers at this moment. -
I just got in after downloading.
Wow there is alot of campers. -
its well annoying at the start of metro with all them bushes n ppl just sittin in them, was on a server last night where my team ( attacking side ) didnt even push wich ended up us being spawn locked lol :/
actualy had a weird gfx bug, everytime somebody fired the muzzleflash would freeze in the air. with all on high settings thats realy flashy n couldnt see anything lol
running 6990m with 11.10 beta -
im gonna shar a secret with u guys, the best gun well atleast for me was m16a3( i think the first gun of the assault marines) use it with the last scope u unlock its like a mix with the holographic and rds? silencer and foregrip
arvg kdr 5.6, highest score in game 10,000 loland for the plr is f2000,holographic scope foregrip and silencer
both are for close and medium range only
sorry for going off topic anyway, ran it on 1080p ultra or any setting for that matter the fps is only going from 25-40 i get 35+ indoors but outdoors only 25-30, i even change the res. to 1024x720 and i only get a 5 fps boost, not a big difference if you ask me ):
i want 45+ fps man. -
I have some problems with my HD6990M
With the game freshly installed on my first game had an average of 32-36fps with Ultra detail level.
In all subsequent match performance has fallen sharply. In some games I have between 20-22fps and other 24-26fps, but I have not had any softness.
The surprising thing is that if you change the level of detail to Ultra, High, Medium or Low performance does not vary
I tried to install the catalyst 11.9 and I have the same problems with 11.7
Anyone else is happening? -
guys....
The recommended video cards for this game,
1. 560 ti
2. 6950
Nvidia.com recommends 560m onwards on their notebooks for BF3
Recommended by AW from standard to ultra setting,

Anyone know where I can get the *best* drive for my 6870m? I'm running the stock one from Dell. Can't seem to locate it on the forums.

Looks like I'm the only R1 user to post here so far.
I haven't tried crossfire yet or the 11.10 drivers but seem to be doing well with all low/off and 800x600 resolution. I care more for performance than quality so I'm OK with that.
So Alt+Ctrl+S = display FPS? I'll have to try that out. It'll be a good tool to help me figure out the optimal resolution/options.
Any of you try using a 360 controller? I'm mainly a 360 gamer and like some aspects of playing on PC but would like to try using a 360 controller if it's possible -
You will get annihilated using a 360 controller. It just isn't as quick as WASD and mouse no matter how quick your reaction. Especially online.
-
lol 360 controller + fps on pc
for real ? -
Been having fun in crysis 2 that way (when playing on my HD TV, there just isn't room for a mouse, and even if there was, it's just too mad unconfortable).
If I were you I'd listen to what the other two just said though, you will get DESTROYED online with a gamepad -
the patch has made the framerates a little more stable even on 30 fps + it doesn't feel laggyish anymore yay

Hey guys! Im still working my way around all this computer jargin, so bare with me. But based off of these specs:
Windows 7 64 bit
Core i7 Q 740@ 1.73 Ghz
6.00 GB RAM
Dual Radeon HD 5870 in CrossFire
I Should be able to run Battlefield 3 Beta pretty smoothly at high settings, correct? When I boot up the game, it throws it into auto (Which tends to run most games VERY smoothly) but mine really chugs. Not hitting more than about 10-15FPS (estimate). Now Im not looking for 60+ FPS, just smooth enough so its playable.
Here are the recommended and minimum specs for the beta
Minimum System Requirements
OS: Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) 32-Bit
Processor: 2 GHz Dual Core (Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ or Althon X2 2.7 GHz)
Memory: 2 GB
Hard Drive: 20 GB
Graphics Card (AMD): DirectX 10.1 compatible with 512 MB RAM (ATI RADEON 3000, 4000, 5000 OR 6000 series, with ATI RADEON 3870 or higher performance)
Graphics Card (NVIDIA): DirectX 10.0 compatible with 512 MB RAM (NVIDIA GEFORCE 8, 9, 200, 300, 400 OR 500 series with NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800 GT or higher performance)
Sound card : DirectX compatible
Keyboard and Mouse
DVD ROM Drive
Recommended System Requirements
OS: Windows 7 64-Bit
Processor: Quad-Core CPU
Memory: 4 GB
Hard Drive: 20 GB
Graphics Card: DirectX 11 compatible with 1024 MB RAM (NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 560 or ATI RADEON 6950)
Sound Card: DirectX compatible
Keyboard and Mouse
DVD ROM Drive -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
5870 Mobility benchmarks worse than a desktop GTS 450, which is nowhere near the recommended video card to play BF3, even in Crossfire. My i7 desktop still lags while playing the Beta.
-
I have about 20-22fps with Ultra detail, with settings deffault (High-Ultra) about 28-32fps, with High settings 30-35fps
All with a Hd6990M
I think lower performance comparison with yours results
Tested with the last Dell´s catalyst. I check the official 11.9 with the same results, and the preview 11.10 doesn´t work -

Hi, I'm actually having problems with the mouse. The pointer in the game during the option menu(in game) is not accurate. Meaning when I want to highlight the audio option in the game menu, i actually need to move to somewhere down and left of the 'audio' rectangle. Anyone having the same problem? Currently using 460m r3.
-
I've been running BF3 with the dell stock drivers for the 580m. The game freezes and crashes a lot for me but runs smoothly otherwise. Is this because of the driver? Anyone else running BF3 with the same problem?
-
BF3 actually requires updated drivers in most cases.
-
Seems like its a memory issue, but the 580 has 2gb :S
-
Thanks for the comments about the controller. I'll assume that means no one's tried it. I'll give it a shot and report back.
I simply hate the lack of control I have over my person - no finetuning since WASD means I either move at 100% or 0%. I'm curious if I can do left stick and mouse. Best of both worlds. Plus once vehicles are unlocked, I can introduce some of you to flying 360 style
-
g13 has a joystick on it u can use if u wish and still have the wasd part of your keyboard
that might work

. So people know, a 360 controller does work. I do agree that there are some shortfalls using it - the main issue is hitting the back button brings up the scoreboard immediately. So you try to spot someone only to bring up the scoreboard! The other main issue I have with it is the inability to change its' sensitivities like you can with the mouse. Perhaps I can do so via the control panel, though.
Despite all the issues, I did feel much more comfortable using it. I have a lower back problem so it is difficult for me to sit at a computer for extended periods of time. I'm actually hooking up the laptop to my home theater setup and gaming via couch and wireless keyboard/mouse. The added 360 controller makes for more relaxing gameplay.
In regards to video settings, turning on crossfire has allowed me to bump resolution up to 1024x768. I tried doing Ctrl + Alt + S, but all I did was slowly move backwards with a little diagnostic window that kept flashing. Sometimes it read fps, but after switching to the higher resolution, now it just reads "768". Do you guys use FRAPS to monitor fps? -

Hello i have the 460m as well and my game randomly crashes and says the my drivers are not reconised and a memery erorr, but my drivers are from the dell website. I went into my alienwear bos and turned off intell speed step and it fixed the fraps but my games still crashes but all my games act like that random frap spikes and crashes i talked to dell and they told me to wait for a bos update but i dont think its bos update, anyone else have this problem or a fix? i think its my card but they want to charge me $1250 for the 560 or 580 cant remeber what one, but my computer already is going to be around $5000 so i dont really want to add 1000 more too it, so anyone who has an idea what it might be or a fix please let me know
M17x R3: 2820QM 2.3 Ghz , 8GB, 460m, 320 GB HD. -
specs in sig. one of the few R1s to post here. I got like 40fps outdoors on 1024x768
and like 20fps indoors.... ..

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Guy realize it is an open BETA. It isn't a perfect game. XX person may have no issues when YY person has nothing but issues. Also see the recommended specs for BF3:
OS: Windows 7 64-Bit
Processor: Quad-Core CPU
Memory: 4 GB
Hard Drive: 20 GB
Graphics Card: DirectX 11 compatible with 1024 MB RAM (NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 560 or ATI RADEON 6950)
That's a desktop 6950 and a desktop GTX 560. SLI GTX 580M is slower than a desktop GTX 480, or the equivalent of SLI GTX 460. Even CF 6990M is only equivalent to a desktop 6950, or 2 x 6870 in CF. And recommended specs mean that, or higher. My i7 desktop can run it, still lags (albeit more network lag IMO). -
specs in sig, play with 11.8 drivers and settings ultra with 4x msaa and 16x filter. never a drop under 30 fps.
-
I run with everything on med/high with no AA - average about 45
Game is best played on low settings on my rig. Even though 30-40 fps is *playable* I dont enjoy getting raped because of subpar FPS. its 60 or bust.
2720, 8g 1600 hyperx, 6970 - latest drivers from DELL website -
i think/hope the final product will be a tad better optimised, gettin reports of low fps on bf3 on a various number of systems that should run the game on low atleast with 80+ fps but seem to struggle and stick 30-40. In most cases the game is pushing the cpu 100% even tho these are 3.2+ quad core with cards that shouldnt have too many issues running the game. Although so far these where mainly amd cpu or the core 2 quad series from intel i mostly got reports from that had issues.
supose we'll find out, prolly better drivers in the future might help aswell
