Good morning to all,
Let me introduce myself, my name is Jorge and I own an Alienware m17x with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
The issue is that I use to work and not really play much with it, but the other day I got the Battlefield 3 and I find that when I play I get this message before starting the game that the Nvidia driver version is outdated, it has to be version 285.38 or higher.
I downloaded all drivers from NVIDIA regarding the issue, and no updates it tells me that is not associated hardware.
There is some kind of process or procedure to update it without collateral damage .. ?? any how to or something?
On the other hand, where I can download the new driver for the video ...
From already thank you very much ...
I hope your comments ...
Jorge.
Pd. Thanks again ... !![]()

Hi and welcome, Jorge!
I had the same issue as you when running the 260m.
The deal is that the 260m graphics card is "outdated" and not longer followed by Nvidia in their graphics updates.
What you have to do, is to modify the INF file which comes with the driver-installer package. When that is done, you will be able to install the new driver-package with your card.
What the INF file simply does, is that it tells the installer about what GPU's that the installer is meant for. By modifying it, you're fooling the installer to think that the driver is verified by Nvidia to run on your GPU and it will let you pass.
