Hi guys,
So I bought Battlefield 3 real cheap from a russian site as suggested by someone on this forum. Spent a day downloading patches and installing. But when Origin tries to launch the game, all I get is a weird frozen startup screen and my keyboard starts cycling colors. Thats it. (its a legit and english version). I have to alt-f4 or kill the app through task finder.
My specs: M17 x4, i7-3820qm, gtx680m @ 302.77 (stock), 3D vision 2, 16gb ram, win 7 etc.
I see that half the world seems to have this problem and that a fix is not coming (11 month old problem) - any advice? Not liking Origin so far!

I manually switched to the 680m with the FN - F7 command. Fixed the problem for me.

Sorry don't have any recommendations for your issue but I have a similar spec laptop coming at some point and was wondering what you thought of it so far. Cheers!
-
I've only had the machine for a couple of days, but so far I've played:
Dear Esther
COD: MW3
Crysis 2
RAGE
Max Payne 3 (3D aint working to great on this so far)
and MS Flight
In Ultra settings, full HD in 3D.
And it just works. Frikkin' amazing for a laptop. The only place where I felt I pushed the machine were in ultra details in MS Flight on particularly detailed scenery - but flight sims are made to push hardware. Looks soooo nice.
Enjoy it, hope it will come soon, I had to wait for mine for a month. -

Do you have a friend who has a copy that you can borrow just to test? Have you tried any other games on it? If you have tried some other games the definitely the issue is with the game. Can you try to remove patch by patch?
-
Hi Luis, hmm no access to other copies of the game, but its a DLC and I've tried running repair on it through Origins cloud interface several times and have made sure more than once that everything is up to date. The game wont launch neither Campaign, quickmatch or co-ops, just kinda hangs on the loading screens. Could you perhaps check if anyone is able to run Battlefield on a similar system and driver? Many other people has this problem according to a quick google check but apparently EA and Origin doesnt give a damn. But you (Alienware) are advertising this laptop, the m17 x4 as being particularly Battlefield friendly, and Battlefield is advertised as being 3D Vision ready. all I can say is, out of the box, it wont launch.

I've seen it working on most Alienware computers, did you check Can You run it?
-
Thanks I did try Can you run it, and it said my system is incompatible with BF3 on the graphics card, the gtx680m - it says 'upgrade requested (okkk - do I need TWO of the fastest mobile cards in the world?). However, all the subcategories of the videocard are green... All I want to know is which driver runs BF3 on a GTX680m or if it is downright impossible... According to the page, NONE of the GTX6xx cards are compatible, apparently (not listed).

And have you tried asking to BF3 forums?
-
Yes, as I mentioned, I am not alone.
Here's another alienware guy. The proposed generic 'fixes' does nothing for me. Battlefield 3 - Alienware Arena Forums
And heres a looong thread on their forum: Game Not Launching - Forums - Battlelog / Battlefield 3 none of what I've read and done so far makes a difference.. :-( -
Bump. Anyone with a gtx680m and Battlefield 3?
-
There is gotta be something wrong with your files or something.
-
I just got the machine in my sig last week. Had the exact same problem. The game works perfectly now though after I updated the video card drivers for the gtx 680m off of the dell website. I'd give a link but I'm on my phone. try it out and let me know if it works.
-
Hey , right click your game in Origin and try the repair function, should download any missing files. If you have 3d vision enabled in nvidia control panel try turning it off before running the game. When it comes to the cycling of colors on your keyboard , that would be an alienfx profile saved specifically for bf3 , where the keyboard changes colors situationally, like for instance flashing red when your about to die or killing lights during cutscenes.... kinda annoying at start but really kind of cool when you get used to it , sure you can turn it off somewhere if you wanted to
good luck!
-
@ Yak: Your driver version is 302.77, right? I've tried with 302.77 from Dell website and 304.79. No luck :-(
@ Blaze: I've tried repairing many times nowAlso tried without 3D-vision enabled. Same problem.
Thanks for your suggestions guys, do keep them coming, maybe we can nail this in the end somehow. EA should contact me shortly with support. -
302.77 is what I updated to yeah. That was the first thing I did and it worked. Hmm. I'm not sure what else you could try. Run as administrator?
-
I have seen people advising to get rid of any additional characters in your installation directory. For example I am using D:\Installed Games\whatever game as my default installation directory and Battlefield was installed into D:\Installed Games\Battlefield 3 ™. To get the green light to the game I had to delete that ™ at the end of directory name and the Battlefield launched without issues.
Runs perfect on Ultra ant 1080p settings on GTX 680M with default 302.77 drivers from Dell website. I do not have 3D screen though, so not sure about that part. -
just downloaded bf3 and it runs great on my R4. i have a similar setup with 680m and 3d vision running dell's 302.77
not sure why it's not running on your rig -
-
Its weird, indeed. But now I know it is not impossible to run it on the GTX680m at least. Still waiting for EA to contact me with some support..

Just a quick update, a re-download and re-install did the trick. I'm now joyfully killing people.
