I recently received my m17x, and I have been playing Battlefield Bad Company 2. It works great in-game, settings on high and whatnot. The only thing is that it takes around a minute to load each map, whether it is first going into a server or in between games. Sometimes, by the time it lets me join in (between rush games) my team has already lost/captured both of the first set of M-COM stations. Any assistance you could give is greatly appreciated. The reason for this is your on the Dell drivers i believe. On Ati's release notes for 10.5 this issue was addressed as it was a known problem.Until Dell get there drivers updated your stuck with that.

Get an SSD maybe... I load into maps in probably 20 seconds tops, maybe less.

He has a M17x R2 with 5870's so his question is relevant here.

How bad is this map loading problem? Any chance of a patch by EA games? I was playing this game on my desktop (single player) with December Catalyst and hadn't noticed anything too bad but than again I am using SSD.

Like SAUCE said, it's an issue with the drivers. Specifically, it's related to the 5000 series ATi cards. CatalystMaker (Terry Makedon, ATi's Catalyst product manager) addressed it on his Twitter account a little while back. It's a well-known problem with the game and it's supposed to have been fixed, but since Dell m5870 users are currently unable to change the drivers for their cards, you're stuck with a release that still has the problem. You're going to have to wait until either the next mobile Catalyst release (and hope that it works with your cards), or until Dell releases their own version of them. The fix should be included in either one.

ATI has dropped the ball on this issue. As of the 10.5 release, there is no fix in place for mobility parts regardless of series. 10.6 was released today and im actually in the process of uninstalling my drivers to upgrade.

ATI released the 10.4 drivers for both desktop and mobility parts and claimed that this issue was fixed. It turned out to not be fixed, and they released 10.4a for the desktop cards, but not for mobility. The exact same thing happened with the 10.5 release. They announced it, turns out it wasn't in there, then released a hotfix for desktop only.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this 10.6 release. I've been suffering through this bug for a few months now. I hate finally joining a game only to find that all the vehicles are gone and we already have a bomb set.

Yeah it is, the load bug has nothing to do with the HD. My HD barely even spins while the maps are loading. I believe it has something to do with shader compiling.

It has nothing to do with HD speed. Even with an SSD it was like one minute plus every time loading for me. Still is even with a regular HD.

Well, I have an ssd and have no issue. A previous poster stated the same.

I also don't see much load time with my SSD, although I'm sure it can be improved if we can get proper fixes and driver support.

i have an SSD and i do have the issue.

Ati even says it's the 10.5 driver that fixes this problem.
but the 10.5 driver doesnt work on the 5870 crossfire.
and you dont have the 5870 crossfire, so you dont have an issue.

i've read the 10.6 driver is out... hopefully any luck on that
