I've searched, but found no concrete solution yet.

I have 4870 X2, and the dell drivers from Dell's website.

I edited the settings file so dx level was on 10, then I tried AUTO. And still I have extremely long map load times. I thought this would be fixed? I thought the 4870s were not bugged with the map load issue.

    Anyone have any other suggestions?

    Thank you

I also have really long load times. I am using dells drivers too, but I have a single 5870. Its probably the dell drivers.

In your situation, the 5870 is known to have long load times because of the dx11. I was under the impression the 4870x2 would be fine.

The new ATI drivers address the long load times of the single 5870. Not sure about x-fire tho.

If you have 4870's and can't get 10.6 working properly like me, I shall explain how to do it.

    Assuming you have 10.5 installed:

download the 10.5a hotfix. Run the installer for the hotfix, but cancel it after it extracts the driver files.

Once the files are extracted, go to the

    \AMD\ATI_Catalyst_10.5_Hotfix_Win7_Vista\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF folder

open up the file called "CH100721.inf" in notepad

under where it says [Manufacturer] you need to put this exact line in there with the descriptions of the other cards:

    "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870" = ati2mtag_RV7X,

now minimize notpad and go to Device Manager:
Right-click a GPU and go to properties.
    click the Details tab
select "Hardware ids" from the drop-down
right-click and copy the 2nd line. should look similar to this: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_945A&SUBSYS_02A11028

now maximize Notepad and paste it after the line you added, should look similar to this:

    "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870" = ati2mtag_RV7X, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_945A&SUBSYS_02A11028

    save/close Notepad

Once you've done that, in the Device Manager:
    right-click a GPU
    click Update Driver Software,
    then Browse My Computer,
    then Let Me Pick,
    then Have Disk.

Once you've done this, navigate to the folder that has CH100721.inf and select it. 4870 mobility should come up as an option.

This worked for me and a couple of other people with M17x's that I know of

I wouldn't try installing it over any other driver than 10.5 though, I tried it from 10.6 once and had issues.

If you don't have 10.5, heres a link to it. It wasnt on AMD's website last i checked.

Thanks so much ttnuagmada, I will try this! I'm guessing the 4870 drivers on dell's website (currently right now) is the 10.5?

I think they're 9.10 or something. If you're running the ones from the dell site, upgrade to the 10.5's (the ones i linked) before you try to install the hotfix.

heres a link to the hotfix

    https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/203..._10.5/ati_catalyst_10.5_hotfix_win7_vista.exe

Also, the 10.6 drivers might work fine for you, they also fix the BC2 load times, but I and a few others were never successfully able to get the 10.6 drivers working right with crossfire.

    ttnuagmada,

    I get this:
    Error
The file could not be found. Please check the download link.

When I click on your link. Do you happen to have another link?

I've never gotten the 10.6 drivers to work for some reason so I think I'll just try your method.

I just installed the 10.5 drivers but now the hotfix link doesn't work. Do you have suggestions on how to download it? Thanks!

It might help. Give it a try. I'm finding out there is a lot of issues with ATI drivers.

    ttnuagmada -
I put back in my 5870 and tried the 10.5a hotfix and that didn't work. Do I need to add anything in the config files for the 5870? I installed the hotfix and it gives me a black screen every time I load BC2. I can't even CTRL+ALT+DEL. I have to hard restart.

The reg 10.5 drivers should have had the hotfix for the 5870's already i'm pretty sure. Since 10.3 or .4 the problem has only been with 4xxx and under.

So does any drivers fix the problem for the 4870 CF? It seems that the hotfix is for the desktop version of the cards. It sux because BC2 is the game I play the most...

Dx9 fixed the long loading times for me, though on the M17-R1.

    Give it a try :).

Thanks a lot! I was reluctant to try the hotfix since it seemed it was made for the desktop version but I followed your instructions and now I have quick load times in BC2. It sucks now though because I can no longer take bathroom breaks in between games!
