under the view tab go down to viewing method and set it to nvidia 3d vision. preferred viewing method should be set to sterioscopic. there may be some other settings but that all i can remember changing and it worked after that.

Edit: just played around with mine since its been awhile. under file tab go to layout and select side by side. also make sure you have enable 3d checked in you nvidia control panel. also make sure that alienware 3d vision notebook is selected in the dropdown box.

I use PowerDVD on my M17x. Works better than the alternatives I've tried on my desktop.

I installed that and it opens the mkv files just fine. However it somehow converts it to 2D. I can't get it to play 3D. Any suggestions?

Chek settings>advanced settings and see if "allow 3d playback" is ticked.
