Greetings. First... Sorry for my Bad English. Iam from Germany and i hope you all can understand what i talk here ;D

    I get this day my Alienware 17... with a I7 4700... and a GTX 860M. I hope i can build in a 4930XM and a GTX 980M for max performance.

I have thermal Grizzyl Gryonaut Paste for the CPU and GPU here. So my question is. What can i do at home for better cooling for max OC and power. A Notebook Stand is ok.. but wich is the best or should i build my own with Coolers direct under the cooling Fans from the Notebook.

Pls told me what oyu think.

My Plan is 1 Profile for the Hotel ( my work is many time over some days outside from my hometown) and one OC profile for my Office at Home.

    Greetings and Thanks Sunjy

Usually the XM/MX CPUs are used in the M18x & AW18 with the 3-pipe heatsink, and since there are no cpu-3pipe HS for the 17-inch you can do the M14x R2 CPU fan- 10.4 CFM mod (needs modification).
    https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/2699-m17x-cpu-fan-upgrademod-2cfm-104cfm/
It was very easy, huge improvement for the 3940XM.
For the GPU, make sure to get the 3-pipe HS (100W) + high quality thermal pads.
A cooling pad would drop the temps a few degrees ~2-3c or you can raise the computer with bottle caps :D
I never tried Thermal Grizzly, but heard good things about their Thermal pastes.

    Good luck.

A good cooling pad can drop temps much more than 2-3 degrees. In my case on both cooling pads I've owned (Thermaltake massive TM and now Notepal U3+ ) I get temp drops of 7-8 degrees which I think we can all agree is huge.

I was talking about Extreme CPUs in general, regardless of what generation.
I got the M14x R2 fan from eBay. Part number XN0G5 & DC28000AJF0 also the yellow label shows a cooling capacity of 10.4 CFM. Found several listings on eBay as of now.
I'm using Targus HD3 Gaming Chill Mat I think it s***s big time. Definitely not worth the $90 CAD.

ok thanks.. is the 14xR2 the best cooler for this part? Or have i another choice for a better cooling in my Alien 17 ?

I think i build my own Notebook Stand with Be queit cooler under the Notebook. So its ultra quiet and cool .

Ikea makes some cheap stands for around $5. Cut some holes and drop some 12V 120mm or 140mm fans in there and you'll be set.

yes , I agree that the HD chill mat is not good at stock. Do what I do. Modify it with 3 120mm fans and you will get 10+ Celsius drop. :)

    My Dual 980Ms in m18x-r2 idle bewteen 35 - 40 Celsius . :)
